At the start I asked if Spheroids earns its place as a platformer. It certainly does, but unfortunately some issues hold it back from being truly great. However without a doubt it is a really good game. It is worth anyone’s time and attention. For the sake of honesty, it shouldn’t take too long to complete, especially when half the game is short and easy. If you can, play this game. Even with its short comings, there is fun to be had here.

The grappling hook is a fun way to swing in Spheroids. I like the music in Spheroids. It kept me interested in playing this game. I could not get the music to work with the off screen play. Not sure what the problem was there. I wish Spheroids had more levels for the price. A physical copy of Spheroids would be pretty neat for the video game industry. Maybe that will happen in the future.

Spheroids is one of the most impressive platformers that I played in recent memory. If it had more replay value, a satisfying sense of challenge, and no glitches then I'd consider it the best Buster Bros. experience yet. However, it's still up there as a must-play for both Pang and 2D platformer enthusiasts as Lucas' adventure is one you won't soon forget.

Spheroids is a fun little arcade game that takes the bouncing ball menace into 2017, despite a few technical issues and a lack of difficulty the game can conjure up some great gameplay that's hard to beat.

Overall, Spheroids is an enjoyable experience which will appeal to older gamers in my opinion. Those who loved games like Pang growing up will love Spheroids because it represents an evolution of the genre. Younger gamers will consider it a strange experiment instead of appreciating its history due to its bubble-popping nature. While I would’ve liked to see a more meaningful narrative as well as more variety in the shooting mechanics, I still think Spheroids is a game I can recommend for someone looking for an intense yet casual adventure.

I feel like Eclipse was definitely on to something here, and then they shot themselves in the foot. They bit off more than they could chew and had to spit something out. If you’re looking for Pang but with a weird new challenge, check out Spheroids. Otherwise, look at other iterations that tried to focus more on the core mechanics that made Pang so great.

Spheroids is a very colorful platformer. While it is fun and cute to play, it is held back by tiny text, only a single music track, short length, and some slight frame-rate issues. Platformer fans may want to check it out, but anyone who is OCD about FPS should be wary.

Sometimes it is too evident, if the game in question is a solo project like Spheroids. But nonetheless: If you like the oldie Pang! you’ll find some fun behind the technical shortcomings.

Spheroids is definitely rough around the edges and has a distinct lack of polish when compared to more well-known franchises within this genre. In saying this, the title still manages to provide a competent adventure platform experience that is sure to entertain players for at least a few hours. It is tough to suggest this over the range of quality platformers on Wii U, but if you're in the mood to eliminate some aliens this is nevertheless one to consider.

Whilst an entire playthrough of Spheroids will only take you four or five hours tops, and nothing put in front of you is likely to test any of your gaming skills, you’ll probably still enjoy the mindless ball popping mayhem that it brings – whether or not that statement says more about me and my gaming ambitions though is another matter. There are issues – most notably with the ‘shop’ which is fairly pointless, but should you be looking for a fairly cheap, simple playthrough and a whole ton of achievement gathering in the process, then you could do worse.

Spheroids never really rises above being average. It has ok presentation and offers some gentle platforming and shooting fun. It suffers from some technical issues, particularly on the Vita. Couple these technical issues with a lack of any kind of difficulty and the game is distinctly average.

The most frustrating thing about playing an indie release like Spheroids is the feeling that the developers were not even attempting to create something fresh or novel. It takes undue influence from many other – better – indie games on the market and doesn’t try hard enough to make its own mark. That’s not to say that there is no hope for the indie market in 2017, however; the horizon actually looks very hopeful for indie releases, but Spheroids just doesn’t cut the grade.

While Spheroids is relatively fun in its early stages and does the basics well, it ruins itself by adding in too much complexity too quickly without thought. The levels are formulaic, frustrating, and suffer from quite a few glitches and bugs, while the story is almost non-existent, the cutscenes awkward, and the ending abrupt.

At the end of the day, Spheroids feels like the video game equivalent fast food. And while there are plenty of great games with shallow experiences, Spheroids is pure junk. Like the Arby’s of video games, the game is a mix of ingredients that deserve to taste way better than they do, and should ultimately cost much less than Eclipse Games is charging.

Unbearable technical problems, awful gameplay direction, complete lack of challenge, besides many others flaws, are more than enough to overcome the momentary good platforming sections that Spheroids can offer, leaving nothing but a frown expression on the players who tolerate the game until its boring end.
