¿Que veredicto se le puede dar a Blade? Al contrario que otros juegos retrasados hasta la saciedad como Daikatana o Messiah, Blade sí ha cumplido las expectativas, y no creo que nadie se sienta decepcionado tras la expectación que ha levantado este juego. España vuelve a ser alguien en el panorama del desarrollo de videojuegos, por muy mal que le siente a la revista inglesa Edge (le ha dado un 2 al juego)... Uno de los juegos del año.

Severance is not a role-playing game. It is not a game suitable for the young or impressionable. It is not a particular deep game, with the storyline being largely submerged beneath the rivers of blood which you unleash wherever you go, and your missions generally consisting of getting from A to B by pulling a lot of levers and then picking up an item.

After a fighter has leveled up and gamers have mastered the combos, BoD can be pretty damn cool. The lighting effects are superb, the music is moody and there is plenty of action. Turn up the volume, turn out the lights and you'll have a thick slice of fun.

A pretty darn satisfying experience. The battles are intense, the gore is outrageous, the levels are well designed, the graphics are superb, and there is a save anywhere feature. Thank God for that. So if you are looking for a challenging and beautiful adventure, you'll want to check this one out.

Other improvements could focus on the animation and interface, but apart from that, you have to say that Severance is an amazingly accomplished work of art. But is it a classic? Not quite. OK, the graphics and physics are immaculate, and the fighting is elegant. But ultimately Severance doesn't quite make it to the top of the tree.

Die Kämpfe sind auf erfrischende Art anspruchsvoll, bleiben dabei aber immer fair. Sie müssen nur weg von dem Gedanken, alles einfach kleinhauen zu können. Nach gelungener Schwertakrobatik ist die Belohnung durch einen Charakteraufstieg gleich nochmal soviel wert. An die etwas »andere« Steuerung gewöhnt man sich auch fix. Nur die teilweise dämlichen Kameraschwenks nerven ein wenig.

But I could not help but enjoy this program, even with the blood and mutilation modes turned on, because of the ‘feel’ of the game (the nice sense that the world was one where common elements, like light and even gravity – throwing objects is very cool – have meaning).

Una atmósfera y una ambientación de corte medieval, enormemente inmersivas y gráficamente espléndidas. Un sistema de combate único, al que logras adaptarte si realmente intentas comprenderlo: entonces se hace intuitivo.
Un diseño de niveles absolutamente genial. Gran parte del mérito del juego se lo llevan estos niveles, maravillosos en su concepción, y aunque alguno flojea un poco, en general están a gran altura. El apartado artístico me parece lo más sobresaliente sin lugar a dudas. Algunas texturas denotan un gusto y un estilo pocas veces visto. Son realmente de quitarse el sombrero.
Una música perfectamente integrada, y arropada por una galería de sonidos de ambiente que logran perfectamente el objetivo.

Z moich powyższych wywodów mogliście wywnioskować, że gra jest całkiem niezła. Mylicie się – jest miażdżąca! Jak już wpadniecie w szał wojenny, nie da się przerwać rzeźni, póki nie wyeliminujecie wszystkich przeciwników na danej lokacji. W pewnym momencie zauważycie, że nie wystarczy już wam zwykła śmierć wroga, chcecie się nad nim znęcać, upokarzać go, poniżać. A pozwala na to pełen asortyment środków. Grało mi się w Severance... naprawdę dobrze. Akcja non-stop, ogromne obszary do zwiedzenia, mnóstwo przeciwników świetnie wpływało to na moje samopoczucie. Gra jest naprawdę rewelacyjna, dystansuje wszystkie inne produkcje ze swojego gatunku (średni Rune). Jeżeli jesteście fanami „rąbanki” w klimatach fantasy, nie znajdziecie obecnie lepszej produkcji.

The game is rock solid, the atmosphere is incredible, the graphics are tremendous, and although there aren't enough RPG elemtents to satisfy the RPG-freak, there's enough interesting stuff in there to keep most people happy for a long while.

Severance: Blade of Darkness krijgt van ons vooral een goede score omdat het spel een genietbare collage van RPG-, action-adventure-, strategy- en third-person-fighter-elementen weet te bundelen in één game. De multiplayer-mode Arena is bovendien een troef die dit spel nog een tweede leven zal geven op het Internet.

To conclude; Severance is a hard enjoyable romp through the glories of hard fantasy, gore and flashing blades. It starts difficult and doesn’t let up even till the end of the game, it’s packed full of nice touches and atmospheric cut-scenes using the in game engine, puzzles and traps. It has big mean monsters and some of the hardest bosses I’ve seen in one of these games ever, it will take months and months to master unless you’re a god at these kinds of games. It has a fairly interesting storyline and will keep your interest to see what lies on the next level and what secrets are yet to be uncovered. And to add to all of this, you can go online in Severance Multiplayer and beat the gore out of your friends/enemies and family in a deathmatch. With the level editor and the tools just released over at the official site, things can only be looking up for one of the meanest and most enjoyable if frustrating at times hack/slash third person swords and sorcery games this year.

Die phanatstischen Lichteffekte scheinen die Jungs von Rebel Act allerdings auch in allen anderen Bereichen des Gamedesigns inspiriert zu haben - überall finden wir viel Licht und viel Schatten. Die geniale Engine, der stimmige Soundtrack, die dichte Atmosphäre, das innovative Kampfsystem, die praktische Steuerung; alles ist von etlichen kleinen und einigen größeren Macken durchsetzt. Dadurch wird Severance längst nicht unspielbar, doch es ist genau dieser mangelnde Feinschliff, der Severance von einem wirklich guten Spiel trennt.

Der Gelegenheitsspieler stößt mit Severance an seine Grenzen: Die Kämpfe sind oft dermaßen intensiv, dass sie mehrere Minuten in Anspruch nehmen und ein Höchstmaß an Konzentration erfordern. Da kommen Profis voll auf ihre Kosten, während Einsteiger verzweifeln und sich fragen, wo der regulierbare Schwierigkeitsgrad geblieben ist. Wer sich nach Erfolg sehnt, kommt nicht drum herum, viel Zeit in Übung zu investieren. Hat man die Steuerung aber erst mal durchschaut, macht das Schlachtfest höllischen Spaß. Dafür sorgen die zahlreichen Waffen und Schlagkombinationen, die erst nach und nach verfügbar werden. Beeindruckend die Präsentation: Fantastische Animationen und imposante Spiegel- und Schatteneffekte sowie der tadellose Soundtrack vermitteln pures Fantasy-Feeling, das ohne Kompromisse und mit unverkennbarem Conan-Flair serviert wird.

If you’re looking for a unique Action/Adventure game, you might want to consider Blade of Darkness. I don’t think there’s anything else out there like it. I played the demo in November 2000 and I was impressed. I bought the game when it hit U. S. store shelves in June 2001. A year and a half after buying it, I have finally played it and I’m glad I played it. However, I do have a list of disappointments and that list begins and ends with the game’s combat mechanics.

As The Darkness is abolished and you’re given a hero’s welcome, I liken Blade of Darkness to a popcorn flick. Check your brain at the door, this one’s all about the special effects and boisterous fighting scenes. Gamers that prefer a little rhyme or reason to their slaying will certainly be disappointed not only by the lack of an engaging storyline, but also by the half-witted puzzles. With that said, there are enough exciting moments in Blade of Darkness to marginally recommend it to those in the mood for a little mindless hack ‘n slash action. Just don’t expect much in terms of role-playing, this is an action game through and through.

Because of its visceral, action-packed combat sequences, Blade of Darkness should appeal to fans of similar games or those who like gritty high-fantasy battles. The control scheme takes getting used to and never really becomes second nature, and the game's mostly good graphics do have some noticeable shortcomings. Likewise, the combat can get somewhat repetitive, and you'll find that the four playable characters actually aren't as different as they first appear. Even so, Blade of Darkness makes good on its main promises: It's a bloody action game that lets you use a wide variety of weapons to make mincemeat of a wide variety of foes. In the end, if that sounds appealing to you, then you'll certainly appreciate the game.

The question remains: Is BLADE OF DARKNESS worth it? When you consider that you have four distract characters, with their own fighting styles and attributes to choose from (I recommend playing the game as the Amazon first), a cool multiplayer mode, and a single-player campaign that should keep you busy for many, many hours—then absolutely. Sure, it has control issues, and yes, it’s extremely difficult in the later levels, but its still a visual treat and should please any fantasy fan used to a world full of dwarves and minotaurs and the undead. If BLADE OF DARKNESS were a piece of meat lying next to a pile of bones in a deep underground tomb, I’d eat it.

Comme la majorité des jeux en vue objective, Severance n'est intéressant qu'en solo. Mais avec ses niveaux longs et bien conçus, ses idées piquées à droite à gauche et sa réalisation exceptionnelle, Severance arrive à impressionner. Ses seules faiblesses : une maniabilité qui a oublié ce que déplacement latéral veut dire et un petit goût de réchauffé après les Tomb Raider et autres Rune. Un jeu indispensable pour les fans du genre et qui vaut simplement le détour pour tous les autres.

Посредственный дизайн уровней выгодно оттеняется блестяще исполненными сценами стычек, один лишь вид стекающей по стене кровищи способен заставить забыть о стандартности пазл, а множество спецударов плюс разнообразие видов оружия в определенной мере компенсируют однообразность местной фауны. Финальными плюсами, разумеется, служат роскошные, пусть и не без изъянов в исполнении, освещение и физика, неприхотливость движка к системным требованиям и возможность битв в режиме «Arena» на специально заготовленных уровнях. Мы не станем уподобляться западным коллегам, по поводу и без выкрикивающим фразы «must buy» и «must play» — возможно, испанская новинка не всем придется по душе, — однако взглянуть на нее стоит каждому. Когда еще увидите такое... разве что в таинственных DOOM 3 и Unreal 2.

Blade of Darkness delivers a competent display of melee combat. ed with stupendous graphics and a capable combat model, the shortcomings in sound and some features (strafing, for instance) make Blade of Darkness a good, but not great, title. If you enjoy games such as this, Blade of Darkness may just be for you. Just remember to beat the enemies with their own limbs.

Blade of Darkness is a definite amalgam of good versus evil, both figuratively and literally. Good backgrounds meet evil character animation. Evil control versus cool upgradeable character stats. It's just crazy. But for 30 bucks, it's not fatally flawed. I just wish it wasn't so mediocre.

Unfortunately, it seems that Rebel Act might have bitten off more than it can chew. Although the swordplay is Blade Of Darkness' greatest strength, it's also its greatest weakness. The sluggish interface is the main problem.

Phew, there you go... If I were you, I'd give this one a miss... Unless you're really crazy about some gory chopping, nice textures, and light play... Hell, that's a good enough reason for many to buy this game, so if that's your main thing, then go ahead and buy Blade. However, if your expectations go a tad higher then that, I suggest you leave this title alone... Yeah, it's tough for the developers... but I wouldn't want you spending your hard-earned cash on something that doesn't fully justify its price tag either...
