Million to One Hero is a well-polished game in the “custom level creation” genre (is that a genre…well it is now). The controls are fluid and you’ll have to employ a lot of skill to finish some of the creations players can come up with. The level creation itself is pretty robust, though it would have been nice if some of the icons were a little bigger on the screen, and combining levels into a mini-adventure is a nice touch. If you’re a fan of 2D platforming and level creation, you’ll find a lot to do in Million to One Hero for a satisfying price.

For years pc players have wanted to join in on the Mario Maker hype, every game claiming to scratch the itch has fallen to the wayside and failed to live up to the hype. Enter a new challenger in Million To One Hero. It’s an 8-bit graphics game that takes everything that made Mario Maker and given it a different spin, Sure it doesn’t quite have the finesse and gloss of a Mario game but it has heart and soul in every part of it. The level creator looks just like Mario and its really easy to learn, create and share. It’s more Mario Maker one than Mario Maker 2 as it does rely heavily on the community keeping the level creation up, so far it’s positive with many clever levels and adventures on the servers. I love how it has so much choice, you can make a puzzle platformer or a straight-up splatformer and it takes no time at all. The one unique thing it has and in my eyes makes it better than Mario Maker is just how much you can put into a level slash adventure, It goes proper RPG Maker levels of creation with you being able to have NPC, Maps, World maps, and quests. I mean it goes Booting the game daily to see what new creations people have come up with was a joy within itself, it’s a game that just keeps on giving.

In closing words, I would recommend this game. With its gameplay and its endless visual charm, I would say it’s worth the asking price, combined with the literally endless content, and its in-depth level creator with a simple UI and easy to understand tools, I would say that Million to Oe Hero is well worth your time and money.

Overall however, Million to One Hero is a brilliant game which allows for a deep level of creativity, challenge, and fun. The options for level creation are endless, and of course the playable content is endless too, as new levels are constantly being made. Especially for those who like the idea of making their own stories with their levels, this is a game you won’t want to miss.

While it remains to be seen if it will survive a player lull, and whether new players from all walks of life will be comfortable diving into a level editor that, while packed with features, doesn’t know how to explain those possibilities, as it stands today, Million To One Hero is a solid time sink to get those creative juices flowing.

My recommendation comes down to your thoughts on 2D platformers and levels designed by other players. If you aren’t really into 2d platformers or don’t generally like levels created by other players, Million to One Hero is not going to be for you. If you like platformers though you should have quite a bit of fun with the game as long as you don’t mind playing levels created by other players. As long as the community continues to develop you should be able to get plenty of content out of the game so I would recommend picking up Million to One Hero.

It is, after all, 1/4 of the price of Super Mario Maker 2, and the community is still small enough that you could easily cut your teeth here and be a rock star level designer. For me, though? I’m gonna pass. There’s too much here that’s annoying to me and none of it is stuff you can fix in the editor.
