Tamiku looks and sounds like an '80s arcade game which must be difficult to do seeing as few retro-inspired indies get it right. For starters, I love the stage themes which come with their own distinct backgrounds and enemies. I also love how well-animated it all is and watching Tamiku cheer when he succeeds and cry as he fails put a smile on my face. On top of all this, there's a delightful soundtrack that's full of bubbly chiptunes that I thoroughly enjoyed. It all comes together to form one charming indie treasure.

Tamiku is a simple game but it is executed so well that it is a joy to play. Initially, the graphics and overall style will envoke memories of Bubble Bobble or Balloon Fight, it’s a very Nes looking game. The gameplay is simple, go around the level and pop all the balloons. Enemies will go around the levels and try and stop you along with level unique twists like bombs or aliens shooting at you. It all makes fun if not criminally short experience. It won’t win any awards for variation or reefing a genre but it is just a game you can boot up for an hour, have fun, nab a platinum trophy and move on with little fuss. Overall I found Tamiku entertaining but very short.

Tamiku certainly has the retro flavour in appearance and sound, but it lacks the special sauce to make it a truly memorable title.

Tamiku is a modern arcade-style game with a rather charming presentation but ultimately the gameplay may be a bit too simple for some, especially given that the difficulty curve may scare away anyone who’s never handled a joystick. If you’re looking for an inexpensive and challenging arcade experience, Tamiku may scratch your particular itch.

Who’d have thought that aliens exist, and they love to pop balloons? Dodge the enemies, and leave no balloons in sight.

Tamiku borrows heavily from a few arcade classics but manages to do its own thing and that is admirable but this simple platformer is over pretty quickly. Not bad for the price but not a game that'll last in the memory.

And that’s about it. There’s no extra modes, no MP, no leader boards. As a standalone arcade game it’s passable for quick bursts, but the appeal soon wore off and after just an hour or so I’d more than had my fill. As usual, there’s a fairly easy 1000g to find if you’ve the desire to grind the stages, but I can’t see this being a title that’ll stick in your playlist once that last achievement pops.
