While I can respect the effort the developer put into this game, The Occultist simply isn't very good. Its puzzles are fairly basic, the enemies are more of a nuisance than a threat, the setting is too reliant on genre tropes, and to top it off, both bossfights bugged out upon death and made it impossible to progress (remember to backup your saves, just to be sure). Doug Cockle offers a good performance, though.

When it was announced, I was a bit perplexed by this DLC, in the sense that I didn't really think it was necessary: Neva's story was self-contained and it worked perfectly well. Playing through it didn't clear my doubts: the scenarios are visually beatiful, but less inspired; the gameplay is alright, althought sometimes frustrating; and the story doesn't really have time to develop into anything. But on the flipside, it's a very cheap DLC and giving Nomada Studio money isn't really a bad thing in my book.

Con il suo nuovo titolo, lo studio di GRIS non delude affatto le aspettative. La storia di Alba e Neva è raccontata molto bene, con i giusti ritmi, e riesce a toccare le corde dell’anima senza mai cadere in fallo. Aiutata, in questo, da uno stile artistico eccezionale, con pochissimi eguali nell’intero settore, e da un musica che regge bene il confronto con il resto. Da giocare senza ombra di dubbio, ma tenete presente che ha una durata piuttosto breve.

At face value, Nordic Ashes offers a lot of content, which makes it feel even more weird when you realize that build variety is one of its issues, due to how character progression works during a run. Overall, it's not a bad enemy hell kind of game, but it doesn't make top of the class.

Che Lords of the Fallen parta da buone fondamenta è evidente. Il problema è che non tutto quello che è stato costruito su queste fondamenta lascia soddisfatti, con difetti e lati poco convincenti diffusi a macchia di leopardo.
