Its longevity is not exactly thrilling, and some design choices may not be to everyone's liking, but for action lovers, there is no doubt about it. Even without Ryu Hayabusa, this ninja knows how to be lethal.

Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound proves to be not only an excellent 2D side-scrolling action-platformer with engaging gameplay and high-quality ‘90s-inspired visuals, but also a strong spin-off that fits neatly into Ryu Hayabusa’s saga. Greater variety and better difficulty balance could have elevated it further, yet it remains a highly recommended experience for fans of the series and the genre.

With some strong visuals and a fantastic soundtrack, Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound is a title that has a lot going for it despite some very glaring shortcomings. A lack of combat depth, and even the ability to attack upward or downward, could have really elevated this to be a top-tier experience. While the dynamic between the two protagonists is extremely fun, it is unfortunately overshadowed by Kumori being incredibly sidelined. Ragebound is fun, even great at times, but it lacks the depth needed for replayability, as you’ll see everything the game offers far too early.

NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound does exactly what it aims to do. It isn’t trying to be a large, 25-hour, big-budget experience. You’ll get a solid 4 to 5 hours of fun combat and platforming the first time through. It’s full of gore, has a decent story, and the graphical splendor on offer, if you’re into pixels, makes it that much easier to recommend if the $40 price tag doesn’t turn you off..

Le titre offre aussi une grande rejouabilité, notamment avec l’aspect scoring qui nous occupera de nombreuses heures dans cet action-platformer qui rentre aisément dans la short-list des jeux de l’année.

La voie du ninja est semée d’embûches, mais la mission est accomplie avec succès par l’alliance entre le clan The Game Kitchen et les ninjas de Dotemu. Le défi de ramener la licence depuis les années 1980/1990 en modernisant l’expérience s’est achevé sans le moindre accroc.
