This is one of the most unique titles on the Switch and should be a must-buy for fans of horror adventure titles. The price is one of the best bargains on the eShop. Despite the short length, the experience of playing this one will be a memorable one. This is the perfect game to play at 2 AM with all the lights off!

Viviette is undeniably the best 2D horror game that I've ever played. Even if you don't particularly like the genre, you still might be pleasantly surprised with what Viviette has to offer.

Slightly above average or simply inoffensive. Fans of the genre should enjoy it a bit, but a fair few will be left unfulfilled.

At its best, Viviette is an unsettling, atmospheric little escapade, telling a story which, while hitting some familiar horror beats, will make you thoroughly uncomfortable. You’ll spend half of the game wondering why the log you just cut in half is bleeding, or whether you can really trust your character’s testimony. But you’ll also spend a significant amount of time struggling to remember which room had the puppet puzzle in it, cursing Lady Stabbington-Smythe or grumbling that the “small key” won’t actually open the small chest.

Viviette takes pride in the fact that it is complex and highly difficult. According to the store page, navigation itself is meant to be an obstacle, and getting the good ending is not the norm, but the exception. I think these points betray the underlying problem running through gameplay: it’s so concerned with being a hardcore puzzle-solving adventure that it doesn’t stop to think when a puzzle goes too far. Viviette is purposefully inaccessible to all but the most hardcore puzzle solvers. Perhaps this is the point, and many will undoubtedly see this as a good thing. If you want a game to really push you to the absolute limits of memorizing a whole area to identify every hidden clue, then Viviette may be the game for you. Otherwise, it’s best to look elsewhere, since you’ll probably spend more time looking up solutions online than actually figuring them out yourself.

If you’re looking for a game with not even a sliver of hand-holding, Viviette will scratch your itch. If you need no motivation to explore a spooky mansion, you’ll find that in the game. However, If you need either of those things even in the slightest, this is one game I would suggest you hide from.

Apart from the wonderful 16-bit audio-visuals, Viviette turns out to be nothing more than a repetitive search for key-item after key-item, with a little bit of puzzle-solving thrown in, next to a simple horror tale that won't really creep you out that much.
