You know that cozy game you can play on the weekend and finish in one fell swoop? While this description perfectly fits many 3D platformers, I'd classify ILA: A Frosty Glide as having a cozier, more relaxing feel than usual.

If you are looking for a fun game to play this Halloween and don’t care about scares, then you might want to play ILA Frosty Glide. The story and gameplay are cute and it does offer some challenge in the way of the broom travel. The game isn’t too frustrating though. This is a game that anyone of any age could pick up and play. Sometimes its just nice to enjoy a cozy platformer.

ILA doesn't overstay its welcome with its 3-4 hour length. The core gliding remains satisfying throughout, the cosmetic collection elements provide just enough motivation to explore a little deeper, and reaching the end feels earned without any artificial padding. Despite some rough edges with the camera and those unnecessary snowboarding bits, this is a genuinely cozy platformer that nails the most important part of a game like this: making its core movement mechanic feel good.

There is a lot to savour and take pleasure in when roaming around, uncovering the secrets and customising Ila’s appearance. If rating the game solely on that aspect, it would score highly. However, I found some of the platforming too frustrating and too difficult to look fondly on my time with ILA: A Frosty Glide. The extreme highs and lows of emotion in trying and just not succeeding left me disheartened. If you like challenging platforming and lots of exploring, then this game might be for you, but for me…

That the puzzles and skating sequences can be fairly unsatisfying is a real shame because when things are going well, ILA: A Frosty Glide is a pleasant experience. I enjoyed just flying around this very charming little island and exploring its history. I liked ILA’s story a great deal as well, and think it explores emotionally challenging situations in a mature way, which will work for all ages. I also believe, though, that the overall experience doesn’t fully come together in a satisfying way. With some more interesting puzzles, a bit of work on the skating sequences, and slightly better pathfinding, this could be a real winner. For now, it’s a nice enough game that doesn’t reach its full potential.
