Analizar GRIS me lleva a una espiral. Soy incapaz de ver qué vino antes, si el hecho de que Roset pinte acuarelas funcionó como inspiración para el equipo de Nomada o si el estilo y talento del catalán reclama un medio en el que varias disciplinas se interconectan, necesitando una pinceladas de las otras para dibujar el cuadro final. Pero sé que un juego como GRIS no surge por casualidad. Tampoco lo hace a menudo, por suerte. Porque no creo que estemos preparados para enfrentarnos a tanta belleza.

GRIS es una obra redonda en todos los aspectos que se propone. Un título atemporal que debería marcar un antes y un después dentro de la industria en cuanto estándares artísticos y narrativos. Un juego que estoy seguro será digno de estudio en los próximos años y una auténtica joya. Debería ser un auténtico orgullo que un juego de esta calidad se haya hecho en nuestro país y toda una declaración de intenciones del asombroso talento que tenemos. Todo el mundo debería de jugar y vivir GRIS, sacar sus propias conclusiones de su mundo y ser testigos de algo tan absurdamente hermoso. Contando con una historia sobre la lucha interior y la superación de un evento traumático, GRIS es uno de los juegos más bonitos, sino el que más, de toda la historia de nuestra industria. Mi más sincera enhorabuena al equipo de Nomada.

Un verdadero viaje de autosuperación dentro de la psiquis de esta muchacha que podría ser cualquiera de nosotros. Enfrentando miedos y obstáculos, para lograr darle fuerza a nuestra propia voz y al expresarnos, salir de esa situación conflictiva. Una verdadera obra de arte que seguramente quede viviendo dentro nuestro y a la que recurriremos cuando las cosas se pongan negras.

Gris is a mesmerizing puzzle platformer. You won’t want the experience to end, but when it does, it will stick in your head due to its poignant atmosphere and incredible visuals. It’s just a shame that it only lasted around three hours. The game’s beauty and quality make it easy to not want it to end.

Gris is an incredible achievement, using its art, music, and gameplay to tell a thematically consistent story about a woman overcoming her grief. Despite the weighty subject matter, the way its protagonist’s triumph over sorrow is reflected in increasingly fluid and diverse platforming makes it a joy to play. While Gris is low on challenge and impossible to fail, it still feels exciting. Even if it doesn’t sound like your kind of game, Gris absolutely deserves a try.

With GRIS, Nomada has created an abstract adventure, as beguiling as it is haunting. By focusing on its courageous protagonist, and creating a bewitching but frightening world for her to overcome, GRIS succeeds with its short but unforgettable odyssey. Awash with meticulous detail, charming aesthetics, and smart design, GRIS is something special. Take the trip.

GRIS è un’esperienza artistica prestata al mondo dei videogiochi, ma ciò non significa che sia priva di un gameplay degno di questo nome. La struttura ludica, per quanto semplice, svolge egregiamente il suo lavoro di veicolo per un messaggio narrativo portato avanti anche e soprattutto da un comparto audiovisivo di prim’ordine, merito delle composizioni di Berlinist e dei fondali eccezionali disegnati dall’artista Conrad Roset. L’opera prima di Nomada Studio è emozionante, delicata ed elegante, una vera e propria perla nel panorama videoludico indipendente.

To call this a simple 2D platforming video game would be to discredit the meticulous work and passion the developers put into this title, not to mention the breathtaking craftsmanship and mental health story you travel on with Gris. The only thing left for me to do now is to play it over again and I can’t wait.

Gris is not only beautiful, but it's also the perfect platformer for anyone who likes a challenge to be about more than reflexes or enemy slaughter. It's a thinking game, that also happens to have really good platforming at its core. It's neither too long nor too short, and worth every penny to experience the year's most beautiful visuals.

GRIS es una obra completa de la industria independiente, que desafía los masivos videojuegos con un absoluto equilibrio entre la jugabilidad y su estética. No busca ser difícil porque no es su objetivo, pero eso no impide que el juego no sea una aventura disfrutable.

Comprender este juego, como ya hemos dicho antes, no es una tarea sencilla. Sin embargo, algo que sin duda logrará es incitar al usuario a conmoverse y reflexionar, a experimentar la auténtica catarsis que transformará tu alma y te hará evolucionar a través del arte. Todo un deleite poético que no dejará indiferente a nadie.

GRIS est un chef-d’œuvre interactif. Son esthétique singulière et ses visuels resplendissants nous transportent dans des tableaux tous plus beaux les uns que les autres. Nomada Studio a clairement le sens du détail et nous livre un univers somptueux, et cohérent dans lequel on se perd avec mélancolie et sérénité. Un titre enivrant, émouvant et relaxant, sublimé par un gameplay simple et fluide, et une bande-son délicieuse. Une courte pause de douceur pour terminer l’année en beauté.

Dit verhaal is overigens vrij dun. Zonder woorden vertelt de game over omgaan met verlies, al blijft ambigu wát er precies wordt verteld. De kracht van Gris zit ‘m in de pure schoonheid. De tekenstijl, animaties, het kleurgebruik, de muziek en de slimme gameplay: alles klopt en overal loop je constant tegen verrassingen aan. De enige nare verrassing, is dat Gris uiteindelijk ophoudt.

As repeatedly mentioned in the text, the game is full of pleasure, beautiful simplicity, and giving a sense of fantasy and abundance. There are games like GRIS that can bring together the two words "art" and "play" together. The artists' art in bringing all of these pieces of art under the umbrella of the gameplay is simple and easy to play, and when all of this can be experienced, the feelings will be thrown together at the same time that only the medieval computer games can do it.

Per essere apprezzato davvero, GRIS chiede al giocatore di spogliarsi di sovrastrutture e aspettative create dal mercato, così da potersi immergersi in un'esperienza che vive d'altro rispetto a quelli che sono i canoni di un genere, quello dei platform game, che in questo caso possiamo considerare come una specie di incidente di percorso. Di fatto GRIS è più vicino come obiettivi a quelli di un Dear Easther o un What Remains of Edith Finch, soprattutto nella sua consapevolezza narrativa ed estetica, che a quelli di un Super Mario Bros. qualsiasi (detto senza alcun disprezzo). Specifichiamo che chiedere un determinato approccio per poter godere di una certa opera non è un sopruso o un inganno, ma un modo per emanciparsi da certe logiche da McDonald's che vedono nell'immediatezza e nella facilità di lettura dei valori assoluti. Solo in questo modo si può iniziare ad apprezzare davvero la moltitudine di possibilità espressive del medium videoludico. Se si gioca con il filtro dei pregiudizi davanti agli occhi, si finisce per vedere in GRIS soltanto un pupazzo ben animato che salta su delle piattaforme troppo facili da raggiungere e che dura troppo poco.

Gris is art in motion and arguably the most gorgeous game I’ve played this year. It dons the cloth of a puzzle platformer, although focusing on just that part means missing the point. That’s because all its pieces, from the absolutely gorgeous visuals and music to the poignant way in which the world gives you the pieces to build the girl’s story, create a delicate whole and an experience that’s well worth jumping into.

Beautiful 2D platformers are practically a meme when it comes to indie game development, but Gris still rises above its contemporaries. Artful in both its watercolor design and broad-strokes storytelling, Gris is a gentle reminder that good puzzle platformers can make you feel smart without smarting, and that being succinct is not a bad thing, especially in the current culture of exhausted replayability.

GRIS is, simply put, one of this year’s masterpieces. Both in the sense that it looks like a work of art and plays like an absolute dream. The platforming is smooth as silk, the world is a joy to explore, the puzzles offer the right amount of challenge and the emotional parts of the journey hit perfectly. It’s a dynamic, creative fantasy tale that knows how to expertly mange action with downbeat moments and everything in between. Overall, it’s just one terrific escapade with a nice amount of variety that you absolutely need to experience. A well-needed burst of color for our lives, indeed.

GRIS is breathtakingly beautiful and demonstrates how artistically inspiring games can be. With its simple gameplay and incredible soundtrack, it is a game that could and should be enjoyed by everyone.

Gris understands intrinsically how magical video games can be and continually pushes your imagination until you’re almost bursting with joy. The ways in which it reinvents itself as you gain powers and dive ever deeper into this world is truly special, and just as it knows exactly when to pull back the camera or introduce a new song, it’s keenly aware of when it's time to say goodbye. Like a comet streaking across the sky, Gris is full of wonder and beauty and leaves you with a warm glow in your heart.

Such is the quality of Gris’s visual art that replaying it struck me as a mandatory indulgence. I think the entirety of its composition demands to be seen.

Gris is a beautiful experience that will be well-regarded for it's visuals, themes, and game design for years to come.

Gris è un gioco che non va spiegato, va scoperto. Spiegare troppo significa spegnere un po’ il piacere di immergersi in questo mondo emozionante. Assolutamente da scaricare e assaporare.

Normada Studio ha creado con «GRIS» algo que va más allá del simple juego de aventura, puzles y plataformas, entrando en el terreno de la experiencia interactiva, Como RiME, Abzu, y otros juegos, lleva la estética y la belleza visual al límite, para impactar al jugador, casi víctima del síndrome de Stendhal. Corto, pero imprescindible.

Even though there’s not much going on mechanically that we haven’t seen before, one look or glance at GRIS and you'll feel the opposite – it is something you haven’t seen before. Like a beautiful and minimal watercolour painting or an evocative piece of album art come to life - GRIS is short, sweet, and often inspiring.

Optisch verzaubert Gris durch einen handgezeichneten Aquarell-Look, der mit jeder Farbe noch beeindruckender und malerischer wird. Wenn ein riesiger Mond auf eine blumenbehangene Stadt scheint, die von Lichtern und Schmetterlingen umtanzt wird, wirkt das schon fast kitschig. Der insgesamt minimalistische Stil rettet den Eindruck aber und lässt Gris stattdessen wie ein sehr durchdachtes interaktives Kunstwerk wirken, das mit jedem Level bewusst noch eines draufsetzen will.

Metafora dell'accettazione di sé e del superamento della perdita, Gris scorre al contempo con leggerezza ed intensità: un'avventura dove il gameplay fa da contorno ad un art design ammaliante, espressivo e potente, affiancato da una colonna sonora di rara bellezza, capace di dar voce alle emozioni di una ragazza che cerca disperatamente di ricostruire quel che resta della sua anima. L'esordio di Nomada Studio è dunque un piccolo prodigio sinestetico che, a fronte di un simbolismo in parte bulimico e non sempre pienamente comunicativo, vi lascerà spesso senza parole. Proprio come la giovane Gris.

Explorar GRIS é uma experiência suave e com tons contemplativos. É interessante acompanhar a mudança dos cenários conforme a protagonista supera sua tristeza — pouco a pouco a cor retorna e os ambientes ficam mais vibrantes. Boa parte do encanto do jogo vem de suas belas e surreais localidades, que são acompanhadas de puzzles e trechos de plataforma simples. Algumas partes podem ser entediantes por causa da ausência de atividades, no entanto isso vai ao encontro da proposta do jogo. Intimista e leve, GRIS oferece uma viagem delicada por inúmeros sentimentos e sensações.

Maravilloso presente el que brinda el estudio catalán. Prometedor futuro. Una prueba más del dulce momento que atraviesan los creadores de nuestra tierra. Claro que está todo por hacer. Pero juegos como GRIS permiten hacer soñar, que no es poco.

Gris’ story is open to a range of interpretations, and it’s not important that you arrive at a specific meaning. Instead, in creating a well-constructed game, developer Nomada Studio has laid the foundations by which you can find your own sight and voice.

『GRIS』の世界は美しく、線の組み合わせや水彩画のような色合いに見とれてしまうほどだ。2Dアクションゲームながらシビアなジャンプ操作や戦闘、難しいパズルといったものとは無縁で、ゆるやかな波をつけつつも一定のプレイテンポを保って、労せずその世界を見て回ることができる。この一貫したプレイテンポはプレイヤーにとって抑圧に似た体験でもあるが、終盤のとあるシーンはその抑圧からの解放であり、想像がついていても心揺さぶられるものがある。一方でそこから先の印象は鮮烈さに欠け、積み重ねてきた繊細さも失われてしまった。

La música, las imágenes, las emociones que transmite… hay tanto que admirar en este videojuego que el que sea corto, o simple en algunos aspectos, no es excusa para dejarlo escapar. Con una genial banda sonora a cargo de Berlinist, y algunos secretos por encontrar en forma de "recuerdos", a los que se accede tras resolver puzles más complejos, GRIS es una experiencia que debes jugar, que debes vivir, que debes sentir. Esto es arte en movimiento; esto es poesía hecha videojuego.

Αναμφίβολα δεν θα καταφέρει να αγγίξει το ίδιο ÏŒλους ÏŒσους ασχοληθούν, και η αλληγορική του φύση πιθανÏŒν να αποτρέψει ορισμένους απÏŒ το να επιχειρήσουν την ανάγνωση μίας ουσιαστικÏŒτερης αφήγησης πίσω απÏŒ τις εικÏŒνες. GRIS is a game that manages to deliver on its aspirations. It's a casual platforming adventure that achieves a great mix of exploration and puzzles, keeping everything feeling very light and accessible. Those seeking a bit more challenge are free to stick around the levels a little longer and grab all the optional orbs. It doesn't outstay its welcome, taking players across a series of levels that keep changing things up throughout the 4-5 hour journey that's fairly priced. And it looks and sounds great while doing so. If you're in the mood for a lighthearted adventure with some simple but enjoyable gameplay, GRIS is certainly up to the task.

GRIS est une aventure mélancolique brillante sur la forme. S’il propose un concept nettement plus classique sur le fond, l’ensemble s’accompagne tout de même d’idées de gameplay réussies, matérialisant une structure et une progression suffisamment bien pensées et intuitives. Sans s’avérer particulièrement brillant ou original, le titre de Nomada Studio est un fier représentant de son genre qui vaut clairement le détour et n’a finalement que bien peu de défauts : un atout justifiant pleinement qu’on lui laisse sa chance en cette fin d’année chargée en jeux de qualité.

Como ya digo, Gris es un juego bastante corto que es muy probable que lo revisitemos. Pero volveremos a jugar, no tanto por su propuesta jugable, si no para volver a experimentar de primera mano su belleza. Aunque es cierto que Gris tiene bastante mérito al no quedarse (tanto) en una bonita fachada. Pero, por lo menos, Nomada Studio ha conseguido que su ópera prima sea una de las sorpresas del año en todo el mundo.

I won’t say that GRIS is bad. It is not even remotely bad. What GRIS is is disappointing. It can’t decide whether or not it wants to be a fun platformer or art piece, and the reality is that it could have been both. There’s a lot of hyperbole out there right now about this being a must play and I have a feeling a lot of people that do will be disappointed by this title. If GRIS goes on sale I would say pick it up if the art style seems appealing, but otherwise don’t look to GRIS to be the new LIMBO or INSIDE because the puzzles aren’t as deep and the gameplay isn’t as prevalent.

We've seen Gris before, back when it was sold in the wrapper of Limbo, Journey, or Ori and the Blind Forest. It's the same old platformer that's being turned around yet again for a new audience with new gimmickry that, while functional, simply brings little to the table. It's easy to fall in love with, at least superficially, until you examine it even closer. It looks great, it's smooth, and you sure can jump a lot – but it's unsatisfying in so many ways that make it difficult to recommend over more competent and feature-rich games in the genre. After all, you know the old adage: beauty is only skin-deep.

Lo que no se puede negar es que la criaturita les ha salido monísima y, aunque no tenga del todo claro lo que quiere hacerme sentir, en absoluto se trata de una historia superficial y vacía. Seguramente, si consigues conectar con lo que cuenta te encuentres con uno de tus juegos favoritos del año y, si no, siempre tendrás un buen título terriblemente bello.

So Gris is beautiful. It really is. But for me that beauty means it’s only really capable of touching on some of the facets of loss. It offers some of the wordlessness, the colourless strangeness of the world immediately after a loss and the seeping in of colour as you open back up. It also manages some of the sense of being at the mercy of the outside world. The way it plays with scale shifts your focus from the girl to the world and back again, depending on how far the camera has zoomed out; a handy tool for simulating numbness or distance. 

But fundamentally, Gris is a game, and I get the distinct impression it forgets that at times. It is clearly beautiful to look at, and a wonder to listen to, but I always felt Gris was well aware of these strengths, to the point where I believe it thinks it’s better than it is because of how it looks and sounds, and forgets that within that world needs to lie a game that is enjoyable to play in between those joyful moments. Walking for the best part of an hour isn’t engaging, neither is being locked out of collectables, nor is not being sure if you understand what is going on. Whilst there’s a lot to be said for nailing a strong look and feel, that doesn’t give it a free pass to be average in other key areas. And that’s a shame because the main idea and premise are sound, and the puzzle and platforming elements really improve in the second half. If the experience of playing the game had been thought about as much as seeing and hearing it, we could really have had something special on our hands. Unfortunately, it smacks of a missed opportunity to be the complete package that could have made it a sleeper hit at year’s end.

Gris is, at times, a meditative, affecting exploration of complex emotions that uses its levels as a canvas for some of the most beautiful visual design in any platformer, backed by a fantastic score. At others, it’s a maddeningly simple and confusing game that lets its artistic ambitions run roughshod over its gameplay.

A week or so removed from playing Gris, I don’t know what I’ll remember it for, if at all. Gris feels like it almost belongs in a museum, with crowds marveling at its art and sound for a few minutes, before moving on to something else. There are moments of beautiful brilliance in Gris, all of which are dragged down by a decidedly average platforming game.
