Enchanted Portals es una divertida propuesta con buenas intenciones, logra encantar por su hermoso estilo de arte que derrocha magia y amor, sin embargo, en lo jugable sus mecánicas poco afinadas no están al nivel del alto desafío que nos lanza el juego, haciéndolo bastante frustrante y poco satisfactorio al superarlo.

In summary, Enchanted Portals, while inspired by Cuphead, falls short of replicating its magic. The controls, particularly in platforming segments, lack the precision required for a challenging experience. The game’s art style and aesthetic are its strongest assets, capturing the essence of the classic hand drawn cartoon era like Cuphead did. Nevertheless, certain design choices and execution issues prevent this one from shining just as brightly.

Enchanted Portals ha una buona grafica, un sonoro intrigante e un’ottima varietà di ambienti e boss fight (queste ultime sono l’unico momento ludico interessante del titolo). Purtroppo però paga il pegno di essere una palese copia di Cuphead. Il suo sforzo creativo e identitario è bassissimo. Inoltre è afflitto da diverse incertezze ludiche e da una struttura di livelli che convince poco. Un peccato considerando il livello tecnico generale che, con un po’ di creatività personale, poteva offrire un titolo decisamente più memorabile.

Enchanted Portals falls far from its influences due to its poor execution. The controls are not tight enough for a precision-based shooter and the bosses lose momentum due to the transition between stages. There’s some creativity with the design and it does achieve the 30s cartoon aesthetic, however, gameplay issues hinder the overall experience.

Enchanted Portals is a title that doesn’t make the grade because, quite simply, it’s not fun to play. We regret being so blunt, especially since the game was developed by only two people, but during our ten-hour playthrough, we genuinely enjoyed ourselves for only one-tenth of the time spent. And, unfortunately, this is more telling than any analysis or consideration we can offer.

Pick up Enchanted Portals and you’ll find that you can have some fun with it, especially if you get a friend in tow and play in co-op. But while it sports an attractive art style and a listenable soundtrack, the gameplay will frustrate you from time to time, and you’re likely to find its run ‘n’ gun stages a tad too repetitive. Throw in difficulty spikes, disjointed boss transitions and a lack of sound effects, and you have a game that’s ultimately a stylish disappointment.

Enchanted Portals should have been so much better, and it really could have! Give us more polished controls, more interesting characters, more engaging cut-scenes and more impetus to play!

Aunque Enchanted Portals busca revivir todos esos sentimientos que nos vinieron al jugar a Cuphead en forma de un bonito homenaje, se queda a medias de cumplir mucho de lo que parecía promocionar en sus primeros anuncios.

Enchanted Portals looks great within its charming old-school cartoon world but it mostly plays like a bargain bin Super NES game.

While Enchanted Portals has some gorgeous art and animation to look at, it simply fails at the bits that really matter: gameplay and design. The shooting is tiresome, the randomised levels go on for too long and the lack of a more efficient saving system is just criminal. While the game is relatively short if you persevere, whether or not you’d want to is another matter entirely.

Enchanted Portals is a soulless, disappointing attempt at capturing the magic and ingenuity that filled Cuphead to the brim. Its bland gameplay, frustrating controls, and erratic difficulty spikes (for all the wrong reasons) don’t hold a candle to the mostly pleasant visual elements on display here.

Enchanted Portals copies almost everything about Cuphead, except for the precision of its mechanics, the tightness of its design and the enjoyment gleaned by mastering it. All the good bits really…

Enchanted Portals takes the foundations of a familiar game in both style and substance, yet fails to provide a compelling experience in either regard. There's clear effort being put into this game in terms of the art and animation, yet the gameplay feels far more unpolished than appearances would have you believe. Random level designs and frustrating enemy placement leads to a game that irritated far more than I would have hoped, with a good amount of my losses not feeling close to my fault.

Enchanted Portals es un juego 2D de plataformas con una clara inspiración en Cuphead, pero con sus carencias jugables. Un título que sin duda pondrá a prueba tus reflejos (y tu paciencia) gracias a su acción frenética y cuya mayor virtud radica en su estilo artístico y en las peleas contra los jefes finales. Terminarlo puede llevarte sus 4-5h en versión normal y según cómo seas de hábil. Sin duda nos encontramos ante un juego de lo más disfrutable si te gustó Cuphead y que cuenta con el mérito de haber sido desarrollado por un equipo de dos personas, que además no parecen cerrar la puerta a una posible continuación del juego, algo que ya hizo Studio MDHR con Cuphead The Delicious Last Course.

Es un juego que se destaca por su estilo artístico, su dificultad desafiante y su narrativa encantadora. Si bien puede resultar frustrante para algunos debido a su dificultad, es un juego que vale la pena experimentar por su calidad general.
