Die Optik von Randal’s Monday erinnert stark an Deponia, mit einem Mix aus den Simpsons und der Tricktechnik von South Park. Es sieht auf jeden Fall verdammt gut aus. Alle Bildschirme strotzten vor Details, es gibt immer etwas zu entdecken, kommentieren oder schmunzeln. Randals stets angepisst/gelangweilt wirkender Gesichtsausdruck hilft auch dabei ihn noch viel sympathischer, zu finden. Wie würdet ihr denn schauen, wenn jeder Tag ein Montag wäre? Die Sprachausgabe ist im Deutschen und im Englischen hervorragend. Man könnte den Charakteren die ganze Zeit zuhören. Dazu kommen die wundervoll geschriebenen Dialoge und der tierische Blödsinn, der auch eiskalt von den Sprechern rüber gebracht wird. Der Soundtrack ist aber die Geheimwaffe des Spieles. Ich könnte mir die ganze Zeit den Track in Randals WG anhören. Wahnsinn! Randals Monday ist eines der besten Spiele, das ich in meinen 28 Jahren bisher spielen durfte, und bekommt nicht umsonst den Platin Award. Danke an Daedalic Entertainment und Danke an Nexus Game Studios für diese großartige Geek Adventure!

Was soll man da noch groß zu sagen? Randal’s Monday hat uns beim Test gut unterhalten und teilweise für heftige Lachanfälle gesorgt. Es ist sehr schön immer wieder auf dezent platzierte Anekdoten und Sidekicks zu stoßen und es macht einfach Spaß die Spielwelt zu erkunden. Es liegt in der Hand des Spielers, in wie vielen Stunden man sich durch das Abenteuer kämpft. Ein Schnelldurchgang ist definitiv nicht zu empfehlen, da einem einfach zu viel entgehen würde. Wir sprechen allen Freunden des Genres und der guten Unterhaltung eine klare Kaufempfehlung aus. Egal wie hoch sich Daedalic Entertainment die Messlatte selbst gelegt hat, Hicks und Konsorten nehmen diese mit Leichtigkeit.

Randal’s Monday es una aventura gráfica excelente, con diálogos y situaciones que nos producirán la carcajada, un estilo gráfico lleno de color y detalle, así como una serie de puzles que nos lo pondrán difícil para que tengamos que hacer uso de toda nuestra lógica a la hora de avanzar. Una clara recomendación, sobre todo para los amantes del género.

Randal’s Monday es una aventura gráfica espectacular. La historia es desternillante, adictiva y con varios giros de guión que logran sorprender, mientras que la jugabilidad recupera a la perfección el estilo de las aventuras de Lucas Arts para ofrecer una aventura genial. Si a eso le sumamos un estupendo trabajo en los apartados técnicos, tenemos un título increíble que no debería perderse ningún aficionado al género.

Es cierto que tiene un par de problemillas con el volumen de las voces y algunos elementos clave bastante pequeños durante los puzles, pero son minucias comparado con todo lo demás. Los chicos de Nexus Game Studios lo han logrado: el lunes se ha convertido en el mejor y más divertido día de la semana.

Randal’s Monday es una joya que entra por los ojos y nos deja ese agradable regusto a videojuego añejo, es un juego concebido para jugar comiendo doritos y bebiendo cerveza, es ese niño pequeño vestido de Darth Vader empuñando una espada láser mientras su padre se hace una foto con Chewbacca. Resulta increíble el mimo que Nexus Game Studios ha dedicado a este juego convirtiéndose en un cóctel magnifico entre los cómics, las películas de ciencia ficción y los videojuegos clásicos. Muchas gracias chicos por esta gran aventura que nos habéis brindado y desde Legión de Jugadores esperamos con ansias vuestro siguiente trabajo.

Randal’s Monday es un must have en PC, así de claro. No es solo un continuo homenaje a todo lo que nos gusta, es un juego completo, cuidado al milímetro en muchos aspectos como el doblaje, que como repetimos es de lo mejor que vamos a encontrar en estos momentos. Randal’s Monday es dificil, un reto a nuestra inteligencia y un videojuego que te deja un regusto a clásico mientras estás con una sonrisa continua buscando algo debajo del escritorio para pegarle al monitor. Podríamos decir que esta aventura gráfica es de las que tiene el mayor indice reto igual a satisfacción de las que he jugado en muchos años. Una compra obligada si eres amante de las aventuras.

En conclusión, para mí este título es imprescindible. Incluso para aquellos que no disfrutaron en su momento el género y creen que no les gustará, deberían probarlo. Porque Randal’s Monday es un canto al amor por los videojuegos. Es un título hecho desde el cariño, desde la nostalgia, pero de forma que resulta encima tremendamente divertido. Entre eso y las infinitas referencias geek que encontraremos, es imposible no disfrutarlo

Nexus Games ha descubierto la fórmula del éxito. Un título cuidado al milímetro, divertido, desenfadado y sobre todo, una referencia geek en sí mismo. Un grandísimo trabajo de los españoles de Nexus Games que ha dado como fruto una aventura gráfica a la altura de las grandes. Han logrado una magnífica mezcla entre Monkey Island, Atrapado en el Tiempo y El Señor de los Anillos que aúna todos los ingredientes para encantar a aquellos jugadores de la vieja escuela y que tiene lo suficiente como para enganchar a aquellos más reticentes con el género, y más aún, con un exponente tan enrevesado. Estamos ante un juego que prometía mucho en los últimos meses y que indudablemente ha hecho honor a su fama.

Nos encontramos ante una aventura gráfica que puede suponer un referente en el género, en el videojuego español y una fuente de inspiración para muchos estudios. Nexus Game Studios ha conseguido crear una aventura gráfica a la vieja usanza, cargada de grandes detalles, una aventura de despacho que puede mirar de tú a tú a los clásicos ya que tiene suficiente base como para convertirse en un clásico moderno. Ya lo decíamos en el avance, aun hay esperanza en el género, por supuesto que la hay.

Sin querer barrer para casa podemos decir que estamos  ante un titulo redondo, bien hecho y mejor ejecutado, que derrocha carisma y cariño Friky. Es largo, divertido y por momentos desafiante en sus puzzles. La mejor aventura gráfica en lo que levamos de año y una cita obligada.

Pese a contar con un ritmo y desarrollo algo lento, podemos decir que son muchas las virtudes con las que cuenta Randal´s Monday y que seguramente con el tiempo llegará a ser todo un referente del género.

Un gran homenaje a las aventuras gráficas y la cultura "friki", con un fabuloso doblaje y atención por el detalle, aunque con puzles ilógicos y fallitos de diseño.

Randal's Monday es LA aventura gráfica que a todos aquellos apasionados de la cultura geek, las aventuras y la ciencia ficción gustará por sus innumerables guiños y referencias. Puede que tenga incongruencias en el guión, pero es una historia con situaciones tan disparatadas que hará las delicias de muchos "frikis" de hoy en día. Duración de 12-14 horas, doblaje excepcional, producto español... ¿Qué más se puede pedir?

Und wer sich auch nur ein bisschen wie ein Geek fühlt und etwas mit Adventures anfangen kann, der sollte diesem Spiel auf jeden Fall eine Chance geben. Es ist eine wunderbare Hommage an die Achtziger und Neunziger Jahre und reicht bis in die Nuller Jahre hinein. Genau genommen ist Randal's Monday ein spielbares Museum und je umfangreicher das Nerd-Wissen ist, desto mehr Spaß kann man mit diesem Spiel haben. Schade eben nur, dass der Ball spielerisch etwas flach gehalten wird.

En resumidas cuentas, hay que poner en un pedestal al equipo de Nexus Games. Sería muy fácil tirar de patriotismo al tratarse de un equipo español, o alabarlos aun mas al tratarse de un videojuego indie creado por un pequeño equipo que prácticamente han trabajado durante mas de cuatro años desde el garaje particular de algún miembro del equipo, pero no lo voy a hacer, dado que Randal’s Monday se defiende por si solo, teniendo muy poco que envidiar a videojuegos de grandes compañías, y si le dais una oportunidad, o si ya lo habéis hecho, sabréis que tengo razón.

Randal's Monday es una aventura gráfica imprescindible para los amantes del género, sobre todo para aquellos con la mirada aún puesta en los noventa. Tanto si sois fans como si es vuestro primer juego de este estilo, debería ser un título a tener muy en cuenta en caso de duda, ya que el ofrece muchas horas de diversión a un precio muy atractivo (redondeando, 20€ de salida frente a unas 20 horas de duración aproximada, dependiendo de vuestra habilidad y de lo que abuséis del sistema de pistas).

Randal's Monday es un juego  indispensable para todos los amantes de la aventuras gráficas tradicionales y el humor irreverente. También lo es para todos aquellos que crecieran en los 90 y consideren que tienen un nivel de frikismo igual o superior a la media. Y por último, también es recomendable para todos aquellos que quieran impulsar el desarrollo de la industria del videojuego en España, porque a la vista está que es muy capaz de sacar productos de gran calidad.

Randal’s Monday viene a dar un golpe en la mesa. A devolver a la aventura gráfica pecera a su sitio, al pedestal que hace mucho tiempo ocupaba y que muy dignamente ha combatido este fantástico título.

Este Randal’s Monday nos ha sorprendido de sobremanera, y no porque sea un producto de nuestra tierra, si no porque nos ha tocado la fibra friki a todos los jugadores amantes de las aventuras gráficas. Y si a ello le unimos que nos hace reírnos, nos mete en una historia divertida, y nos lo adorna con un espectacular doblaje y un apartado visual muy llamativo; nos deja con unas ganas locas de recomendaros el juego, y obligaros a salir corriendo a vuestra tienda más cercana a haceros con él.

Larga, pródiga en referencias a la cultura popular y que no nos pone las cosas fáciles, Randal’s Monday es uno esos ejemplos en que la suma de sus cosas buenas puede con sus defectos. Podemos echarle en cara que se les va la mano con la referencialidad a Cine, Series, Videojuegos y Comics, escenas de diálogo demasiado largas a veces o unos pocos puzles concebidos de manera dificultosa en exceso que interrumpen el equilibrio del juego. Pero por otra parte tendremos una Aventura Gráfica con aroma, jugabilidad y regusto bien clásico, con estruja-cerebros de pruebas que apelan más a nuestra parte imaginativa que a la lógica –vaya dos o tres bien planteadas y mejor ejecutadas que tiene-, larga en su duración, surrealista y delirante, a la par que friki por los 4 costados desde los personajes hasta los elementos en pantalla. Y coronada por un doblaje magnífico, sin mácula, de esos que DEBEN hacer enrojecer de vergüenza a las editoras que todos sabemos. Un notable debut para los indies de Nexus y título más que recomendado. Sobre todo si en el Test de Rorschach que veis en una de las capturas de este análisis discernir claramente un Stormtrooper.

Taking what was best out of the semi-legendary Clerks, Randal's Monday is filled to the brim with the same snarky jokes, instantly recognizable voices and a world where just about everything's possible. While the storyline certainly is stellar as far as writing and characters themselves go, all the geeky references might take away from the game a bit.

La compañía española Nexus Game Studios demuestra que las aventuras gráficas todavía tienen hueco en el catálogo actual, y más todavía aquellas que cuidan los detalles que destacaban en el pasado y te sacan una sonrisa cada pocos minutos. La apuesta por el humor, el apartado artístico y la notable faena en su faceta argumental y de doblaje hacen de Randal’s Monday un título más que recomendable. Es cierto que la versión de  PlayStation 4 podría haberse cuidado y ciertos puzles desesperan a cualquiera, pero escuchar continuamente referencias y guiños de todo tipo es una magnífica experiencia. 

There’s a lot to like about Randal’s Monday, from the excellent writing to the pleasant visuals, and there are a good number of laughs throughout as you guide Randal through his own personal hell, tearing everyone else a new one as you go. Look past the surface, though, and the picture isn’t quite as pretty. The gameplay is too slow, the pop culture references too many, and the puzzles too obfuscated.

En resumen, con Randal's Monday tengo sentimientos encontrados. Valorarlo como juego me obliga a evidenciar que ser retro no es ser perfecto. Hablamos de una producción genérica, con fallos en su ergonomía, diálogos injustificadamente largos y que, sobre todo, se sustenta por sus innumerables detalles. Aunque también es exigente, sin ayudas. Me ha recordado a la época en la que me estancaba en Broken Sword y tenía que dejarlo para el día siguiente. Nexus Game Studios ha hecho algo más que un juego y se nota que lo ha hecho con todo el mimo del mundo. Por eso, a pesar del empacho de referencias 'geek', hay que valorar a Randal Hicks y sus amigos como lo que también son: un homenaje, una mirada hacia atrás para saber de dónde venimos. Sólo por eso ya merece un respeto.

En definitiva, la colaboración de los desarrolladores alicantinos con la editora Daedalic nos trae una buena aventura gráfica con más de quince horas de juego que nos devuelve a la nostalgia de las mejores épocas de LucasArts, con puzles de prueba y error que parecen imposibles, diálogos gamberros y una historia plagada de referencias geeks. Lo peor, su dificultad, se convierte en su valuarte más apreciado, y los que desesperen siempre podrán echar mano a la sección de pistas.

Now here we are, at the end of our journey of words and I feel I may have neglected to give Randal’s Monday it’s due credit. It doesn’t do itself any favours by placing itself in clear competition with venerable classics of the genre. When driving the Ford, point not at the gentleman in the Bentley. If you’re after a game that provides the mind-rending levels of difficulty in a classic adventure format then you should probably look no further. Those seeking originality, depth, or an evolution from the formula that made games like Monkey Island so popular better give this one a miss.

Randal’s Monday is cynically dark in humor and intriguing in plot.  The game constantly breaks the fourth wall and acknowledges that it is at the same time.  Randal will ask questions that refer to the player and will blame you for his sociopathic behavior.  This unique style of comedy fits well in this game and it meshes perfectly with the old school styled adventure games.  On a disappointing note, the repetitive background guitar music slowly grates on you and muting it and playing your own tunes turns out to be a wonderful solution.  The writing and voice acting is great, but the way it is implemented is disappointing.  As a whole, Randal’s Monday is a success and rewards gamers of all types with nods to their childhood.  Sadly, it is held back by some things which could potentially be fixed.  If you enjoy laughing at games and solving absurd puzzles (with or without killing kittens) then give this game a go, it’s worth a buy.

Randal’s Monday es una aventura gráfica de corte muy clásico, donde la interacción con el inventario y los puzles absurdos están a la orden del día. Busca sobre todo el reto y lo sobrelleva todo con buenas dosis de humor "nerd" y un gusto por lo absurdo llevado al extremo. Hay una cierta falta de comodidad a la hora de desenvolverte por ella y por su interfaz, además de contar con un personaje que no cae bien de primeras, pero esconde buenas ideas además de ser un homenaje a toda una infancia de libros, pelis, cómics y videojuegos. Como un Big Bang Theory de lo absurdo, hecho aventura gráfica.

Randal’s Monday sorprende por su clasicismo extremo. Lo complejo de sus acertijos y el control de PC pesan mucho en una plataforma como PS4, aunque su guión divierte por momentos y el trabajo de doblaje resulta excepcional. Nexus Games Studios comienza su camino como desarrolladora de forma irregular, pero no estaría de más seguirles la pista con sus próximos proyectos.

Overall I’d give Randal’s Monday 7/10 it does offer some funny moments although it does start slipping into the ridiculous and can feel a little bit tedious. The storyline is quite immersive and really quite enjoyable. So if you want a point and click game that takes you back through a bit of 80’s..90’s..00’s nostalgia then this game is definitely for you.

Randal´s Monday es un juego que no es apto para todo el público debido a su alto contenido de humor negro y escenas que pueden herir las sensibilidades de algunos. Si no creciste en la década de los 90 podrías incluso no entender la inclusión de muchos elementos que para los que somos de esa época dorada nos traerán muy buenos recuerdos.

Nexus Game Studios ha realizzato un titolo d’esordio letteralmente spaccato in due. Divertente, dissacrante, ricca di interazione e di spassosi omaggi alla cultura nerd-geek, l’avventura grafica del team spagnolo pecca però là dove un titolo simile dovrebbe essere invece più forte. Gli enigmi risultano infatti troppo spesso astrusi e privi di ogni logica, con la conseguenza di irritare anche l’avventuriero più esperto e di costringere a tentare combinazioni a casaccio per trovare quella giusta. Sufficienza alla fine meritata grazie a tutto il contorno narrativo, ma per il resto non c’è molto per cui gioire.

Randal’s Monday è un’avventura grafica “estrema”, che stressa all’inverosimile ogni tipica caratteristica del genere, ottenendo come risultato un prodotto complicato da digerire. L’eccellente realizzazione grafica e il doppiaggio professionale non bastano da soli ad ovviare ai lunghissimi dialoghi fumosi e ai puzzle non sense. Se siete fan irriducibili dei punta e clicca potreste accoglierlo come una sfida: in tal caso preparatevi a sudare!

Randal's Monday wird nur einer ganz speziellen Zielgruppe gefallen, nämlich Fans der klassischen Adventures. So viele clevere Anspielungen und Querverweise auf die Nerd-Kultur findet ihr in kaum einem anderen Spiel. Das bringt Insider immer wieder zum Schmunzeln. Wer sich dieser Gruppe zugehörig fühlt, der kann gerne einen Wertungspunkt aufschlagen. Für alle anderen ist diese Odyssee aber nur schwer zu verstehen und bietet kaum Motivation, am Ball zu bleiben. Die Charaktere wollen auf Teufel komm raus cool und außergewöhnlich wirken, nur leider klappt das nicht immer. Die Animationen sind mau, die Musik ist oft unpassend und die Rätsel sind meist uninspiriert. Trotzdem hat mich Randal's Monday nicht losgelassen. Ich wollte immer wieder wissen, welche Filmzitate noch auftauchen, welche cleveren Dialoge noch warten, welche Absurditäten aufgefahren werden oder wie der nächste Montag verläuft.

Auch wenn die Idee von Randals Monday sehr gut ist, sieht die Umsetzung nicht ganz so glänzend aus. Die Story ist gut, aber chaotisch, das Gameplay unlogisch aber mit guten Gesprächen durchsetzt und die Charaktere sind toll mit Ausnahme des Protagonisten. Auch wenn die Präsentation durch zahllose Anspielungen, eine tolle Grafik und einem passenden Soundtrack mehr als gut gelungen ist, bleibt Randal’s Monday ein eher durchschnittliches Spiel, welches mit knapp 10 Stunden Umfang auch nicht das längste Point’and’Click Adventure ist. Also, eher zu Daedalics anderen Adventures greifen!

It is things like this, along with easter eggs, and voice acting that makes Randal’s Monday a uniquely hilarious play. I do feel the game targets an older 20s and above audience for they would understand the references. I am not too sure how much more of the game I have left, but I look forward to each new monday it throws at me.

Randal’s Monday might not be the next great adventure game, but by focusing on the same humor and style as Clerks, it has a charm to it. The animation and voice acting is superb, channeling the spirit of Sunday night animated shows without being edgy for edgy’s sake. For all his sociopathy and kleptomania, Randal is a likable protagonist and you’ll want to follow him throughout his day, even in repeat. Still, the gameplay flaws are apparent, especially in the sluggish pacing and occasionally bad puzzle design. For every superb demonstration of classic adventure creativity, there’s an example of lazy construction. The hint system could have used an overhaul, as it simply reveals the solution. Despite these flaws, however, Randal’s Monday has a place. Its lengthy story justifies its $25 price tag, and you’ll find some memorable moments scattered throughout. Randal’s Monday doesn’t do everything right, but the things it does do right are daring, and in a genre that’s been lost to the ether for years, that’s definitely something.

Randal’s Monday gets so much right it’s depressing that it gets the crucial gameplay part wrong. The voice acting, story, dialogue, graphics, music, humour, modern adventure game mechanics, that’s all impressive and lovely. Then a couple of hours in it’s like Nexus Game Studios lost their book titled “How To Create Good Adventure Game Puzzles”. The puzzles are illogical, obtuse, require far too many steps to get even basic items, expect the player to just magically know that things will happen or objects will be somewhere, and often don’t have any sort of satisfying payoff. Quickly the joy of Randal’s Monday became a chore and all the good characterisation in the world couldn’t hide that. Plus the constant fourth-wall-breaking and unsubtle referencing got overbearing fast. You’re great at everything else Nexus, just get the gameplay right next time please? Your homework assignment: play all the LucasArts adventures again and take notes on puzzle construction. What doesn’t fit is the story itself. From all the game time I put into this game, I had to pawn a ring, dig through some trash, talk to a bum, glue a phone to its receiver and fashion a stick with a shower rod and a rubber duckie without any rhyme or reason to it. Why did I have to talk to the hot dog vendor in a crime scene? Because I had to. Why? I still don’t know. All of these events are very random and doesn’t tie together at all. I’m still trying to wrap my head around Randall’s Monday. As a point and click adventure game, it just lacks substance in its writing that could have pushed it over the edge and made it a great game. As a TV show or a movie, I would watch that just to see what would happen next, but as a game, Randall’s Monday has little going for it.

Randal's Monday es una aventura gráfica conservadora a propósito, una decisión de diseño comprensible pero que hace que huela a armario cerrado un poco más de la cuenta; algunos puzzles son más enrevesados de lo que me habría gustado, le cojea el ritmo cuando no debería (a pesar de que el guión es bastante bueno: ni revoluciona nada ni quiere hacerlo, pero se mueve con soltura dentro de los límites que él mismo se impone) y el horror vacui de chistes pop acaba haciéndose algo indigesto. Un aplauso, eso sí, por el buen humor: hace falta más.

„Wie zum Teufel soll ich denn bitte darauf kommen?“ – das war beim Spielen von Randals Monday einer meiner häufigsten Gedanken. Man merkt dem Adventure von Entwickler Nexus leider immer wieder an, dass hier keine erfahrenen Rätsel-Designer am Werk waren. Oft steckt eine viel zu verquere Logik hinter den komplexen Puzzles und es mangelt an Hinweisen in Gesprächen, um dem Spieler auf die Sprünge zu helfen. Schade um das unterhaltsame Thema, die eigenwillige Hauptfigur und den gelungenen Humor. Randals trockene Kommentare sind zwar nicht zum Brüllen komisch wie die Dialoge in Harveys Neue Augen, trotzdem ist es unterhaltsam, durch die Welt des egoistischen Kleptomanen zu laufen, der sich nicht einmal von metaphysischen Zeitverschiebungen aus der Ruhe bringen lässt. Wer sich von einer bizarren Rätsel-Logik und einem Mangel an Hinweisen nicht  abschrecken lässt, kann sich trotzdem durchbeißen – notfalls mit der eingebauten Komplettlösung – mir sind Daedalics durchdachtere Titel aus eigenem Hause aber deutlich lieber.

While Randal’s Monday might not bring anything new to the table, it is a tribute to the golden age of point and click adventures. For fans of comic books and cult films, it’s jam-packed with in-jokes and references to look out for, and both the audio and visuals are very pleasing. This is all sadly let down by the nonsensical puzzles, where the solutions are far too obscure, meaning that even seasoned adventurers are likely to resort to the hint system. While you want to feel challenged by a game, it still needs to be fun and rewarding – not just one frustrating challenge after another.

Fans of old adventure titles, crude humor and excessive pop culture references might find some value here, but most would be better served with better adventure games.

Pour résumer, on pourrait dire que Randal’s Monday est l’ado boutonneux et un poil lourdingue d’un genre qui aurait atteint l’âge adulte. Cela n’en fait pas un mauvais jeu, mais un titre anachronique réservé à un public en manque d’expériences oldschool. Vraiment oldschool. Z’êtes prévenus.

It's a common misconception that in a comedy game, anything goes. No. Look at Day of the Tentacle and you'll see how the logic and goals have to be clear, even if the solution is from Toon Town. Randal's Monday gets it painfully wrong, mistaking convoluted and crazy for funny and logical to the point of being tedious and infuriating to play even with an in-game walkthrough for when you've had enough. Just reading some of the solutions is tiring.

Randal’s Monday is a love letter to all the things you grew up with and love to this day but it doesn’t manage to hold up to the standards set by what it’s emulating. If you want humour with your nostalgia then there are better choices, and if you want a hardcore point and click then there are also better choices. It’s not bad, but it’s not a replacement for modernised point and clicks that have improved on the archaic design of the games we grew up with.

Daedalic has put out a good-looking game that just fails to capture the attention. They’ve given us an unlikeable protagonist. They’ve designed their puzzles to be as obscure as possible and then don’t reward the player with a significant prize to warrant the time spent trying to figure it out. They’ve made us kill kittens if we can’t solve the aforementioned puzzles. The idea of incorporating pop-culture references is a good one, but completely overdone and ending up feeling like Daedalic just threw everything at the wall to see what sticks. While the overall design and musical score are in and of themselves very well done, they’re just not enough to transform Randal’s Monday into something better. No doubt some will find plenty to like about Randal’s Monday, but ultimately there’s just too many adventure games on the market which outclass it in almost every way, making it impossible to recommend.

Randal’s Monday has a clever premise that deserves better treatment than it does in this crude, baffling adventure. Though its visuals and acting perfectly fit its ‘90s-era slacker aesthetic, Randal’s Monday lacks the sharp writing necessary to make its odious hero amusing. But it fails the most at being a competent adventure, presenting players with nonsensical puzzles so confounding that the built-in hint system is a necessity instead of a crutch. While it’s great to hear Jeff Anderson riff as another Randal, and see the (virtual) return of Jay and Silent Bob, you’re better off popping in Clerks and seeing inane chatter the way it was meant to be - funny.

As we know by now, adventure games are not doomed to be mere fossils. Telltale and many other devs have reimagined the genre in many new and exciting directions that honor the legacy of those that came before but without the design baggage that so plagued them in the first place. Randal's Monday is blind hero worship that ignores decades of design theory and leaves an unpleasant aftertaste thanks to its thoroughly unlikable, homogenous cast.

Dessa forma, Randal’s Monday não inova muito e nem trás o melhor do seu gênero. Indo no sentido oposto, com apelações clichês e personagens manchados pelos longos diálogos. Só uma bela arte e seus ótimos controles não são suficientes para fazer desse um dos melhores títulos da Daedalic, e nem muito menos um bom Point ‘n’ Click. O jogo peca naquilo que é mais básico em qualquer jogo: sua diversão.

Schade ist das vor allem deshalb, weil es in den Momenten, in denen es das Zitatebuch popkultureller Anspielungen mal beiseite legt, einen Humor entwickelt, der erfreulich nahe an den freigeistigen Anarchismus eines „Harveys neue Augen", die Rotzigkeit eines Deponia oder die satirische Bissigkeit von South Park heranreicht. Schade ist das auch um die eigentlich hübsche Plot-Prämisse der Raum-Zeit-Schleife und ihres intelligent geschriebenen Bohemian-Ensembles. Denn all diese Punkte veranschaulichen schmerzhaft, dass Randal's Monday nicht nur zu retten gewesen wäre, sondern gar ein richtig gutes Spiel hätte werden können.

C'est le drame de Randal's Monday dont le postulat et la réalisation suscitent immédiatement l'intérêt... avant qu'on ne lutte face à des énigmes dont seuls les développeurs peuvent saisir la logique, s'il y en a une, en se grattant la tête devant des références un peu trop envahissantes, s'incrustant des tonnes de dialogues souvent soporifiques.

Randal's Monday se tak nakonec nehodí ani pro odrostlé fanoušky filmu Clerks, ani pro obvyklé adventurní publikum. Hra nemá spád a namísto zábavy vás jen frustruje. Navíc nefungují ani geekovské odkazy, protože už dávno nejsou jen záležitostí několika málo vyvolených.

That said, “It’s functional” is the game reviewer equivalent of “It didn’t make me sick.” Had Randal’s Monday been released in the time period it misses so badly, it would have been considered a passable but pointless imitation of other, better games. In 2014, it’s an embarrassing reminder of why this genre should remain ignored by all but the most talented developers. Barring the possible subtext about adventure game protagonists (which may be entirely in my head), the game is artistically bankrupt – it copies ideas, spouts constant references in lieu of jokes, and features a story so flawed that even its own writers seemed to give up by the end of it. The experience can easily be replicated by watching Groundhog Day with some friends, and pausing to take turns being jerks to each other every time Bill Murray tries to interact with something.
