Overall, everything that makes for a highly enjoyable adventure is present.  Brilliant story and characters, clever and challenging puzzles and a gripping pace, all presented almost perfectly.  The few issues encountered can’t even be taken into consideration when playing this marvelous game.  Along with Hollywood Monsters & Runaway, Pendulo has now established itself as one of the industry’s top adventure game developers.  You will be missing out greatly if you skip this gem.

Si Runaway: A Road Adventure ya nos llevó por todo lo largo de los Estados Unidos por carretera viviendo una aventura en la que huíamos de unos capos de la mafia altamente psicópatas, os podemos asegurar que Runaway 2: El Sueño de la Tortuga no se queda lejos. En nuestro análisis de la primera entrega ya os asegurábamos que esta trilogía de videojuegos supuso un antes y un después en la aventura gráfica española de principios de los 2000, y no podemos evitar repetir nuestra afirmación. Os traemos el análisis de Runaway 2, la continuación de la aventura de Brian y Gina. ¡Vamos a ello!

Una aventura de altura. Larga y desafiante, el argumento engancha, aunque echamos de menos un poquito de variedad en la jugabilidad.

Es difícil, largo, divertido y presenta una increíble historia que no tiene nada que envidiar a la de la primera entrega. Gráficamente es bueno, pero apenas mejora con respecto a su predecesor y actualmente se queda atrás comparado con las consolas de nueva generación; a nivel sonoro es también increíble: uno de los mejores doblajes de un videojuego realizados al castellano y una magnífica BSO. 

Runaway 2 ist ein sehr gelungener Nachfolger eines der erfolgreichsten Adventures überhaupt. Grafisch und soundtechnisch wurde wieder einiges geboten. So wurde die Grafik stark verbessert und ist perfekt. Überall bewegt sich etwas und lässt die Welt sehr lebendig wirken. Die Vertonung ist hochprofessionell. Eigene wunderschöne Musikstücke und passende Sprachausgabe sind in sauberer und hoher Qualität verwendet wurden. Das Rätseldesign ist gut gelungen. So findet man neben einigen einfacheren Rätseln auch Rätsel, welchen einen sehr lang beim Spielen beschäftigen. Leider verpasst das Spiel die volle Punktzahl, weil die Geschichte des Spiels etwas utopisch ist und das Ende kein wirkliches Ende ist. Schade, aber sonst ein traumhaftes Adventure! Ein Kauf lohnt sich!

Trotz all der kleinen Mängel, die wohl bestimmt auch bald einem Patch zum Opfer fallen dürften, handelt es sich bei 'Runaway 2' um ein Adventure, wie man sich das schon lange gewünscht hat. Grafik und Sound sind stimmig, die Steuerung schnell, unkompliziert und angenehm, die Story spannend und überzeugend. Alles in allem ein passender Nachfolger des ersten Teils, sowie ein würdiger Vertreter seines Genres, trotz des umstrittenen Endes.

En 2003, le premier Runaway nous demandait si nous étions prêts pour le retour de la grande aventure. Ce jeu sorti de nulle part, si ce n'est de l'imagination fertile d'un trio d'espagnols parfaitement inconnus, marquait effectivement la renaissance du genre. A tel point que nous en sommes aujourd'hui réduits au même sort qu'il y a trois ans : guetter encore une fois le retour de la grande aventure, et donc celui de Runaway. Notre attente touche aujourd'hui à sa fin.

Die sehr hohe Qualität der ersten Spielhälfte leidet im späteren Spielverlauf etwas. Während die ersten Kapitel noch mit hervorragender Rätselkost und kurzweiligem Gameplay begeistern können, gesellen sich ab Kapitel 5 auch weniger glorreiche Aufgaben und träge Animationen dazu. Außerdem weiß die Wirre Geschichte um Joshuas UFO-Eskapaden nicht wirklich zu überzeugen und hier und da trübt ein an falscher Stelle abgespieltes Soundsample das Gesamtbild. Das alles soll aber nicht darüber hinwegtäuschen, dass Runaway 2 ein sehr gutes Adventure ist, das durchaus länger beschäftigt als sein Vorgänger, obwohl es nur die erste Hälfte einer Geschichte erzählt. Nicht zuletzt die geniale Grafik samt passender Musikuntermalung lässt einen über manche Holprigkeit mit Milde hinwegsehen.

Das offende Ende nehme ich den fiesen Spaniern übel: ich will doch wissen, wie's weitergeht! Überhaupt hätte Runaway 2 noch Stunden dauern können. Die Grafik, die Charaktere, der Humor, die schnuckelige Barkeeperin - ich wurde unterhalten wie bei einem guten Kinofilm. Da ich leicht abgedrehte Rätsel mag, treffen auch die Knobeleinlagen bei mir voll ins Schwarze. Leider haben die Entwickler nicht nur die Stärken sondern auch die Schwächen direkt aus dem Vorgänger mitgebracht. Dass ich eigentlich nur ein einziges Gespräch führen muss, damit mein Lösungsansatz funktioniert, hat mich diverse Male frustriert und geärgert. Darauf kam ich nämlich erst, nachdem ich mir eine Stunde eine Alternative überlegt hatte. Liebe Pendulos, bitte stellt das im dritten Teil ab!

Probablemente la nota que merezca este juego sea algo superior a la que al final le he asignado. Esto es debido a que, durante el desarrollo de la aventura, el argumento y los puzzles muy largos me han decepcionado. La calificación no es nada baja tampoco, ya que debo de tener en cuenta la gran calidad que hay detrás de un proyecto así: gráficos, doblaje, motor (sin duda felicito a esos programadores que han logrado un motor fluido y muy sólido), precio, el paquete con todos los extras incluido el primer Runaway... Creo que tenemos en "Runaway 2" una de las mejores (o la mejor) aventuras gráficas de este año, y con un poco de suerte disfrutaremos de la última entrega muy pronto. Recomiendo el juego a todo aquel aficionado a las aventuras, y le digo que si en algún momento desespera, que tenga paciencia, porque realmente el juego vale la pena.

Die Umsetzung der PC Version für die handliche Konsole "Nintendo DS" ist mehr als nur gelungen. So wurde inhaltlich alles 1 zu 1 übernommen. Dadurch weist das Spiel neben einer sehr guten Spieldauer für ein DS Adventure auch ein klasse Rätseldesign auf. Gesteuert wird das Spiel mit dem DS Stift, welchen man wie eine Maus auf dem PC einsetzen kann. Ebenso wurden alle Videos der PC Version mit übernommen. Es ist wirklich herrlich, die große Anzahl an Videos auf der kleinen DS Konsole präsentiert zu bekommen. Runaway DS ist ein richtiges Adventure für DS, welches alles aus der Konsole herausholt und Lust auf weitere Spiele dieser Art macht. Aufgrund kleinerer Schwächen, welche auch die PC Version schon hatte, rutscht das Spiel nur sehr knapp an einem goldenen Award von uns vorbei und erhält mit Leichtigkeit die silberne Ausführung.

Ondanks enkele complexe puzzels, is dit verplichte kost voor de fans van zowel het genre als het origineel!

Viele Dinge hat man bei der Konkurrenz schon besser gesehen: die Bedienung und Spielbarkeit bei Geheimakte Tunguska, den Humor bei Ankh, innovative Rätselideen bei Sam & Max und abwechslungsreiche Aufgaben bei Undercover. Als Entschädigung bekommt man dafür die momentane Referenz in Sachen Grafik und Spieldauer in diesem Genre geboten. In der letzten Zeit gab es viele Abenteuer, die man innerhalb eines Wochenendes lösen konnte und das ist hier definitiv anders. Die Story kann bis zum Schluss motivieren und sorgt somit für viele Stunden guter Unterhaltung. Trotz aller Kritik ist das Spiel für fortgeschrittene Genre-Liebhaber ein Pflichtkauf. Einsteiger sollten auf Grund der knackigen Rätsel eher bei der Konkurrenz vorbei schauen.

Contando con la escasez de aventuras gráficas que sufre el género en la actualidad, y con que aún son menos los títulos de cierta calidad que últimamente llegan al mercado, hemos de decir que Runaway 2: El Sueño de la Tortuga es una excelente aventura que no defraudará a los apasionados del género. No obstante, el juego no está exento de fallos y llega algunos meses más tarde de la cuenta, ya que en Francia se lanzó a finales del 2006. Además, por desgracia, también parece presentar un aspecto más comercial, algo que de todas formas no empaña la calidad general del título. Sí que es negativo en parte también el hecho de que la aventura no finalice en esta segunda entrega dejando demasiado abierta la trama, contando además con que no llega a sorprender al mismo nivel que su primera parte.

Upbeat, well-developed, clever, taxing and enjoyable, Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle should evoke one of those little impulses you won't be able to resist until you've played it to completion.

It all comes back to the lemur. In a lot of games, the furry half-pint would be used for a quick gag then thrown away. In Runaway he is bought along for the rid and improved upon throughout. The tree-rat seems to embody The Dream of the Turtle; it has a cuddly, non-threatening look, is several times smarter than it would at first appear and charms laughs out of you instead of forces them. And longer you spend in its company, the more you find to enjoy.

Bisweilen sind die Gespräche wie auch die Zwischensequenzen allerdings etwas zu episch bis hin zum sinnlosen Gewäsch angelegt, ohne weiteren spielerischen Nutzen. Und Vorsicht: Das Adventure macht vielleicht einen lockeren Eindruck, die oft mehrteiligen Rätsel sind aber teilweise bockschwer. Und einiges ist schlicht zu viel des Geheimnisvollen: Obwohl ihr die Gegenstände für eine Lösung habt, verhindert irgendetwas, dass ihr endlich weiter kommt. Oder ihr werdet kurz vor der Lösung ausgebremst, weil dem Herren Helden einfällt, dass er nun Bedenken äußern muss - für Anfänger kann das schnell frustrierend sein. Trotz seines coolen Comic-Flairs, vieler witziger Dialoge und interessanter Kopfnüsse mangelt es dem spanischen Point&Click an Zugänglichkeit und hier an da an gewürzter Kürze. Geheimakte Tunguska ist in Sachen Rätselkultur logischer und nachvollziehbarer, Runaway 2 dafür spritziger und auch für Profis eine echte Herausforderung.

Seit vier Jahren freue ich mich nun schon auf den zweiten Teil von Runaway, immer wieder wurde die Veröffentlichung verschoben und die Erwartungen mit neuen, hübschen Screens angestachelt. Vielleicht musste mich Runaway 2 daher einfach enttäuschen. Doch die Mängel sind einfach zu offensichtlich, als dass das Spiel mit anderen Genregrößen wie Ankh oder Geheimakte Tunguska noch mithalten kann. Da wäre vor allem die total logikfreie und langweilige Story, die mit ihrem offenen Ende mehr Fragen aufwirft als beantwortet. So klasse das Spiel in den ersten beiden Kapitel startet, so stark baut das Adventure anschließend in fast allen Bereichen ab. Auch die Rätsel sind nicht immer logisch, doch gerade die verrückten Knobeleien machen zusammen mit der erstklassigen Präsentation und dem Humor noch den größten Reiz des Spieles aus. Von daher macht Runaway 2 durchaus Spaß, doch im Vergleich zur Konkurrenz reicht es leider nicht zum eigentlich fest eingeplanten Genresieg.

NOTA ALTA y bien merecida. La adaptación del exitoso juego de PC a la portátil de Nintendo ha sido todo un descubrimiento.

In the end, the prettiness of Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle does not entirely make up for its average sound and gameplay, but despite some of its flaws, it is still an entertaining game, and fans of the original, or those seeking a nice looking and light-hearted adventure game, will more than likely appreciate this sequel.

Dream of the Turtle is like a lot of adventure games. It does some things well and some things badly, and overall it lands somewhere around average. Fans of the first game will no doubt like the sequel, but for everybody else it’s likely to be an iffy proposition.

Runaway 2: El sueño de la tortuga es una buena aventura gráfica que decepciona en la comparación con su predecesor Runaway: A road adventure. Sobresalientes gráficos y animaciones, y un trabajo excelente en el doblaje conforman un apartado artístico sensacional, pero el giro que da esta segunda entrega en lo referente a su tono se revela equivocado a los pocos minutos de sentarnos delante del ordenador. No obstante se trata de una opción muy interesante si echamos de menos este género olvidado, y sobre todo si tenemos en cuenta su bajo precio y la edición de lujo con la que viene acompañado.

The Dream of the Turtle has the basic point-and-click formula down to a science. It does have a style all its own and it's different enough to make it an interesting alternative for those looking for something different.

With its cheeky sense of humor and immense visual appeal, Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle can be a good time for adventure gamers with a taste for the wacky, enough so that it could renew interest in the original title. Unfortunately, the more esoteric puzzles will leave you scratching your head, and the linearity of the gameplay will sometimes require that you take missteps before the correct solution will be accepted. What it all comes down to is this: you'd have to search far and wide to find another game that lets you sic a hormonal polar bear on an unsuspecting nature lover dressed in a bear costume. Whether you're willing to play through the game's flaws in order to attain that experience is up to you.

That said, it is nice to see an adventure game maker trying to do something other than the realistic point and click adventure slide shows that seem to be so prevalent these days. Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle reminds me of the days when LucasArts had mastered the art of point and click adventuring with games like Maniac Mansion, Sam & Max, and Grim Fandango where crazy stories could happen outside of real-world influence. Runaway doesn't get everything right, in fact, there are some very frustrating aspects to the gameplay, but the story is wacky enough and art style fun enough that adventure gamers may way to give this one a shot.

If you’re a fan of adventure games then Runaway may be worth your time considering the dearth of titles in this genre. If you never enjoyed adventure games, then Runaway is only going to reinforce those feelings.

Though it occasionally feels a touch too stylistically beholden to the Golden Age of Lucasarts adventures, that fact is more likely to entice ardent point-and-clickers than turn them off. The absence of any truly teeth-gnashing puzzles means that experienced players will rattle through this tropical romp in short order, but the experience will at least be an overwhelmingly enjoyable one.

Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle never really lives up to the likes of long-established adventure franchises from LucasArts. Quite simply, they don't make 'em like they used to.

The visual calisthenics in Runaway 2: The Dream of the Turtle are a sheer triumph. But the dialogue-tree hula hoops will simply leave you out of breath. It hits the rare smart moment, if not a mild-pepper compulsion to progress a stagnating storyline. But far more often than not, it languishes in clueless comedic timing (is it really all lost in translation?), who-knows-what-they're-smoking puzzle pieces, and a Teen People sense of sensuality.

If you’re a fan of adventure games then Runaway may be worth your time considering the dearth of titles in this genre. If you never enjoyed adventure games, then Runaway is only going to reinforce those feelings.

Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle starts off as a great adventure game, with plenty of potential, but basically throws it all away.

A bit more attention to the puzzles, the pace and the script, and this old-school adventure might have been more of a turtle's dream than a turtle's head.

You’re essentially playing an endurance test in videogame form. It’s not terrible, but it is horribly annoying. If you’re aware of that before going in you may just love it

Perhaps the biggest disappointment about Runaway: The Dream of the Turtle, though, is that there is probably a solid adventure buried under all the teen-girl posturing and awful dialogue. Even though the game has a lot of problems, it's got an undeniable spirit about it that at least communicates the developers' love for their work, as well as a great appreciation for classic adventure games from the late '80s and early '90s. That's something to praise, even if the actual game is an also-ran.

Someone obviously told the voice actors that the script was dreadfully witty as they proceed to deliver e-ve-ry li-ne slo-oo-w-ly just so you can get the full effect. It makes every conversation impossible to listen to without wanting to cut your ears off.

A failure. Despite the excellent art, and even ignoring the frustrating puzzles, the biggest problem here lies in a group of obnoxiously stereotypical characters working their way through bad dialogue and a poorly plotted and paced script, topped off with three horrifying words: "To Be Continued..."
