While this game might not be as complex, or deep, as something like Revolution under Siege by AGEOD, it never really tries to be that, this is a light wargame, that has a simple yet functional rule system, and the developers have done a good job at representing the chaos of the conflict. And most importantly, it’s a fun game. There are a few rough edges that could be ironed out, and I hope that the developer adds a good tutorial in their next game, but overall, this is a really good game, and I feel like it’s an improvement on the developer’s last game, Battles for Spain (which I did enjoy).

I want to like Libertad O Muerte!, as it’s the only game with a focus on this area during the revolutions. I want to, but I don’t. It is a game without much depth or substance, with the only variables coming from random cards or the player deciding to move his troops into a specific province. I could see it possibly being a better time when playing hot seat or over PBEM as the AI doesn’t feel as if it has a soul.There isn’t enough character here to overcome the game’s shortcomings. I hope that it sees future updates to cut down on the fluff and adds more options for player agency, but until then, I can’t recommend it at this time.

Libertad o Muerte es tan fácil de describir como que es un juego de mesa trasladado al ordenador. Su principal aliciente es ofrecernos estrategia militar ambientada en una época histórica tan poco tratada como las guerras de independencia colonial. Su funcionamiento va mucho más allá de tirar dados y sacar más que el enemigo; habrá que tener en cuenta la salud y moral de nuestros soldados, la presencia de líderes y cartas con información histórica que pueden alterar nuestras partidas. La pega la encontramos en lo confuso del aprendizaje y de algunas mecánicas que nunca parecen estar claras del todo como el reparto de recursos, puntos de victoria o el uso de barcos. Con todo, un juego entretenido y divertido pensado para los amantes de los juegos de mesa y la estrategia.
