As stated earlier, the difficulty feels similar to the Super Meat Boy kind of challenge. For those familiar with the game, you know this means that you’re in for a good challenge that requires strategy, precise timing, quick reflexes, and plenty of patience. Unless you nail every move on the first try, you will die a lot. In a game like this, it’s part of the experience, although it can be frustrating. Some sections can be irritatingly difficult and make you want to take a short break; I can vouch for that first-hand. Once you get past a part that you’re having trouble with, that sense of accomplishment rushes over you and pushes you forward. Having checkpoints scattered throughout the levels helps an incredible amount as well. In the end, Super Hyperactive Ninja is a fun, challenging, and patience testing game that I recommend for anyone looking for a tough platforming experience.

Super Hyperactive Ninja has a simple and silly premise that results in a funny, fast-paced game. It’s not complicated, but it is challenging even to keep you engaged level after level.

Super Hyperactive Ninja is a game that will fit in well with those who enjoy a good speedrunning adventure or simply want to find the next challenging platformer. Whilst there may not be much replayability besides going back for the S-rank, there are certainly some bragging points to be earned for anyone who can master this surprisingly difficult adventure. For such a low price, there may well be many who want to give it a shot.

Super Hyperactive Ninja has a lot to offer fans of the platforming genre thanks to a well-balanced approach present in most levels and boss battles. Some levels get frustrating thanks to some poorly placed enemies and obstacles that make clearing them more difficult than they should be, and this issue is only exacerbated by the game's caffeine-infused hyperactive mode, which leaves your character almost entirely out of control. It's meant to be an added challenge, but it goes just a bit too far and becomes quite unwieldy. Other than those moments, however, it's a fun if not exceptional platformer that genre fans should appreciate.

Overall, the design of Super Hyperactive Ninja is fun and engaging, but I think that more could have been done with the caffeine theme to make it feel less generic. The music is good and though the gameplay can be frustrating, people who love a challenge with find Super Hyperactive Ninja to be worth their time.

Super Hyperactive Ninja has the potential to be a pretty addictive game. The graphics are super cute, the soundtrack is great and there is honestly a lot to like here. But the key gameplay component isn’t up to scratch but it’s also nothing that couldn’t be fixed with a little software update.

A very niche game, with a very difficult gameplay. It has a good amount of content that adds a great value for the game. Its cute characters and items add some good variety for the gameplay. The only problem I see is that only a small number of players will enjoy it. As I only started to have fun with the game after investing a good time on it, I’m afraid most of the players won’t resist the hard initial first stages until some variation starts to temper the game. For those who are up for the challenge, I’m sure you’re going to have a good time with Super Hyperactive Ninja.

Sadly, I couldn’t really enjoy my time spent with Super Hyperactive Ninja, its frustrating controls overshadow anything good about the game. The amount of times I died due to bouncing back off a wall when I had meant to jump up it is unreal. It has some interesting concepts but they just aren’t implemented very well. Basic level design and a lack of anything to hold your interest makes if hard for me to recommend this game. Some may find some enjoyment out of it, if you spend long enough looking for something to enjoy.

Super Hyperactive Ninja is a great example of what happens when good concepts meet bad implementation; the coffee theme and Hyperactive Mode are both interesting things that could have potential if explored properly, but Super Hyperactive Ninja doesn’t do so. Cheap level design, uninspired visuals, and poor controls make this a game that’s difficult to recommend, but moments of enjoyable gameplay can still be found for those who look hard enough. Even so, there’s no shortage of excellent platformers on the eShop at the moment, so you’d be best served passing on this one. If you’re looking for a challenging, retro-inspired side scrolling ninja game, go play The Messenger instead.

The world of ninjas meets the world of java in JanduSoft and Grimorio of Games’ platformer Super Hyperactive Ninja. Featuring a coffee-nin that’s high on pep, does its speedrun-centered gameplay deliver a nice buzz?
