Ruin Raiders is a good option for fans of turn-based tactical roguelike games. You’ll be pushed to explore “just one more ruin” as you try to collect enough Entium to make one more update to your structures so that you can make some permanent progress that will make the next run a bit easier. The game’s art style does feel a bit generic at times, but the gameplay is what really helps this one keep you coming back for more. Ruin Raiders is out with a $19.99 asking price.

Ruin Raiders is a game that meets its goal but certainly falls short compared to other games of the same genre. If you like cartoon-style graphics this game is for you, it is worth mentioning that the concept of anthropomorphic animals reminded me a lot of Star Fox, those of the old school will understand me. However, I wouldn’t recommend it if it’s your first time dabbling in the genre.

I don’t want to seem too down on Ruin Raiders, because the core strategy gameplay works well. If you’re willing to put in the time, it does start to have more variety and more customization after you build up blueprints and base facilities, but the road to that point can be pretty monotonous. It would have been much better served to have more variety in the early stages, which would have been a much better and easier to recommend game.

Ruin Raiders is an attractive adventure featuring adorable animal characters. With surprisingly challenging gameplay and satisfying boss fights, every dungeon you descend into provides a unique challenge. The biggest qualms are that the game can occasionally devolve into a grind-fest and there’s a lack of coherent story. However, if you like the sound of a good turn-based strategy title in the spirit of X-Com combined with dungeon-crawling and combat featuring interesting animalistic abilities, you’ll probably enjoy Ruin Raiders.

Overall, Ruin Raiders very much is NOT a game for me. I wouldn’t pay money for this game, and unless you’re very into “roguelike” gameplay, you probably shouldn’t either.
