Fans of Nintendo 64-era 3D platformers will find it hard not to enjoy FreezeMe. The level and character design, mechanics, music and structure are all love letters to the seminal N64 launch game. It brings back the sense of adventure in a cartoon world that has largely been missing since the demise of the 3D adventure platformer, and it ticks all the right notes of nostalgia. Still, occasional issues with controls, graphics and enemy design, coupled with the fact that (despite the freezing mechanic) the game feels like a less polished version of Super Mario 64 and thus not especially original, hold back the game from achieving the heights of its spiritual predecessors. Despite those limitations FreezeMe is an exceptionally crafted game from a one-man development team, and it's a fun adventure worthy of your time and money.

FreezeME is a delightful 3D platformer that I highly recommend to anyone who can get their hands on it. However, make sure you prepare for many frustrating moments and are ready to learn its intricacies on your own before you jump in.

FreezeME probably won’t go down as being one of the greatest games in eShop history, but I can say that considering this was almost completely created by just one guy, it would be a lie to say that I was completely let down. If anything, it did leave me impressed—to an extent. I hope that if RainyNightCreations goes for a sequel, he can look back on this game’s shortcomings to better his skills and deliver a more enjoyable experience; FreezeME has a lot of potential that’s just hidden underneath the flaws. Even so, if you’re looking for a decent platformer and can tolerate its shortcomings, then this game may just be for you.

While FreezeMe is not the epic game is could have been it is a great attempt and a first of its kind on the eshop. I think a lot of people will get at least a little enjoyment out of it, even if it’s just those warm, fuzzy, nostalgic feelings. The game is a little buggy but nothing too bad. Check it out if you’re a fan of 3D platformers.

FreezeMe could have been a great game, but instead, its just an ok one. The game is trying too hard to be Super Mario 64 and never does find its own personality. If lack of personality was its only problem, I suppose that would be alright, but sadly, that not the only thing wrong with this game. At present, FreezeMe has a lot of glitches. The developer may fix these issues via patches, but, honestly, I don’t think that early buyers or reviewers should be beta testers. Still, even if all of its glitches are fixed, FreezeMe will be just be a generic Super Mario 64 clone. FreezeMe’s bright and colorful open world is not enough to recommend this game. Instead, players should go out and play Super Mario 64 again.
