If you love interactive stories, such as the ‘Walking Dead’ era of games from Telltale or the Life is Strange series, then you’ll really enjoy Alfred Hitchcock – Vertigo. It’s not a puzzle game like the Yesterday series or Beyond a Steel Sky, but it’ll quickly have you hooked thanks to its immersive gameplay and story.

Alfred Hitchcock – Vertigo, es un juego muy recomendable para los jugadores interesados en tramas profundas cargadas de tensión y giros de guion inesperados, para los amantes de las películas del gran director Alfred Hitchcock y para los que gusten de las aventuras narrativas. Entre sus defectos más llamativos la jugabilidad es escasa ya que la toma de decisiones no afecta a la historia y faltan puzles y rompecabezas que nos hagan sentirnos más protagonistas del juego. Además, sufre de fallos de optimización lo que provoca caídas de FPS y algún error gráfico menor.

En el lado opuesto tenemos las virtudes, que son muchas, una historia y un guion absorbente que te atrapa y no te suelta hasta el final, una ambientación estilo Hitchcock muy lograda y una banda sonora que es maravillosa, algo a los que nos tiene bien acostumbrados Pendulo, y que consigue de forma magistral crear un halo de misterio y de suspense al más estilo de los mejores thrillers psicológicos. Para terminar quiero confesaros que me ha resultado una más que agradable sorpresa y que me han dado ganas de volver a ver toda la filmografía de uno de los mejores directores.

If you’re a story lover, then Alfred Hitchcock – Vertigo is possibly a must-buy. It’s a unique and individual game, powered by a narrative that has been inspired by the famous director’s classic film. The story is great with a lot going on, the gameplay works well and there are always some intriguing moments to keep your attention and focus. It’s not complicated and you won’t get stuck at any point, but the pacing is a problem at times and it could have possibly been cut by a couple of hours without harm. 

Alfred Hitchcock – Vertigo supone, al menos para nosotros, un renacer para Pendulo Studios. Tomando como referencia la obra del cineasta inglés, nos presentan un interesante título con una narrativa muy marcada, unos giros de guión interesante y esa característica atmósfera llena de tensión que se palpaba en las películas de Hitchcock. Si bien es cierto que a algunos fallos y que su jugabilidad puede definirse como algo limitada, su guión, su banda sonora, su cuidado doblaje y esa maravillosa ambientación, nos hará enganchados de propio a fin sin querer soltar el mando hasta que veamos los créditos de este estupendo thriller lleno de suspense.

Alfred Hitchcock Vertigo puede hacerse bola al principio, pero si perseveras en lo más tedioso la historia acabará atrapándote. Es una reimaginación del clásico de 1958, con personajes y tramas totalmente nuevas. Su conexión con Hitchcock a veces está cogida por los pelos, pero tiene personalidad propia y una historia que merece ser contada.

Ya os dije que no podía extenderme demasiado ya que no quiero desgranaros la trama, pero en conclusión un buen juego de suspense. Una aventura gráfica que no te dejará indiferente, con momentos que te encogeran el corazón y otros que te harán saltar del sofá. Avec Alfred Hitchcock - Vertigo, Pendulo Studios offre un hommage digne au maître de l'angoisse. Non seulement, il respecte les codes des films de l'époque et nous gratifie d'une bande-son à la hauteur de son modèle, mais il repose aussi sur un scénario parfaitement bien ficelé, avec de nombreux rebondissements qui nous tiennent en haleine jusqu'au dernier moment où l'ultime clé permettant de tout comprendre nous est livrée. Il est bien dommage qu'il souffre d'une technique pas toujours au point débouchant en particulier sur des problèmes d'éclairage et de nombreux temps de chargements à rallonge, comme sur une animation labiale souvent désastreuse. Mais si vous êtes un adepte des jeux narratifs et des films d'Hitchcock, vous devriez lui pardonner cet écueil tant l'ambiance est au rendez-vous et les flash-back appréciables, notamment lors des séances d'hypnose.

Alfred Hitchcock: Vertigo offers a story with many twists that I didn't see coming. If you can look past the general lack of polish and you're in the mood to relax and play something with little gameplay, you'll enjoy your time watching the story of Ed Miller unfold.

Alfred Hitchcock Veritgo takes some steps to tell a mature story that has an incredible mystery behind it. Certain parts are difficult to play through due to the subject matter, but if you’re after a narrative adventure that shares thematic depth of cinema, then you’re in for a treat. The gameplay doesn’t compliment the story telling too often and a few performance issues hold it back. However, if you can look past those flaws there’s a unique story to unravel.

While the game isn’t directly from Alfred Hitchcock’s mind, it’s been loyally crafted by those who’ve worked hard to honor and replicate his style. This is a game for Hitchcock fans, by Hitchcock fans and that really shines through. Vertigo isn’t quite the game-changer that Heavy Rain or As Dusk Falls managed to be, but it certainly deserves a seat at the table.

Alfred Hitchcock Vertigo è un gioco che brilla sul piano narrativo e, grazie a questo, riesce a farsi perdonare un comparto ludico limitato, ridotto all'osso e relegato a ruolo marginale rispetto alla volontà di raccontare una storia. Se si capisce questo aspetto fondamentale, avendo dunque consapevolezza di quello che andremo a giocare, è facile coglierne le qualità e volendo anche chiudere un occhio su un gameplay che forse - pur capendo le intenzioni dietro - si sarebbe potuto spingere un poco oltre. Graficamente è un alternarsi di alti e bassi, a causa di animazioni semplici ma anche di espressioni piuttosto limitate, sebbene in certi casi i personaggi riescano ad amalgamarsi bene al tutto. Nulla da dire invece in merito alla colonna sonora, perfetta nel creare la giusta tensione e atmosfera "hitchcockiana".

In conclusion, Alfred Hitchcock – Vertigo is an unexpected bit of fun that we didn’t see coming, nor did we expect to enjoy it as much as we did. The implementation is a bit janky for sure, but if you look past that, this is a fun reinterpretation of a cinema masterwork. We ask that you watch that after having played this. We just wish that it wasn’t so enamoured with QTEs. Thanks for popularising them Shenmue.

Una obra con una historia y personajes muy interesantes que se ve mermada por algunos errores técnicos y una agencia del jugador casi nula

Alfred Hitchcock - Vertigo es un juego con el que puede costar conectar en un inicio, pero que sin duda tiene una gran historia para quienes consigan hacerlo.

Alfred Hitchcock Vertigo es una oportunidad perdida para traer una de las grandes obras del cine de Alfred Hitchcock a la industria de los videojuegos. Aunque sí que el trabajo de Pendulo Studios es excelente en términos de narrativa, otros aspectos importantes quedan muy relegados a segundo plano, algo que no le sienta muy bien a la obra en general.

Alfred Hitchcock: Vertigo est un thriller intrigant à défaut d’être haletant. Son fil rouge se tisse au fil de mystères que l’on a à cœur de dévoiler. Mais il pâtit d’un rythme si lent qu’il peut en devenir pesant. Le spectacle s’apprécie aussi en demi-teinte ; Pendulo Studios met au point une atmosphère sonore concluante au détriment d’animations et d’une technique particulièrement boiteuses.

Alfred Hitchcock - Vertigo is an interesting narrative-driven adventure game, or more like an interactive story, which incorporates several themes from Hitchcock's work. While not linked to the film of the same name, Vertigo is similar in many ways and - like Vertigo - features a compelling and well-told story with (mostly) interesting and well-developed characters. However, this story is countered by distracting facial animation, issues with balancing the generally good audio, and other technical problems. Alfred Hitchcock - Vertigo isn't a bad interactive story, I'd even recommend the story, it misses the mark on too much for me to not offer some caution.

Alfred Hitchcock – Vertigo cuenta con una magnífica narrativa llena de giros de guion y una excelente construcción de los personajes, desgraciadamente lastrada por una escasísima jugabilidad, un apartado técnico muy limitado y un ritmo demasiado lento. Está muy lejos de los sublimes inicios de Pendulo Studios que hicieron historia en los videojuegos de aventura gráfica.

It’s hard to recommend Alfred Hitchcock – Vertigo. On one hand, the story is interesting, at least interesting enough to have made me want to see it through to its conclusion. But on the other hand, it’s incredibly padded with unnecessary sections, rife with bugs and glitches, and has some distractingly bad lip syncing issues. At least it’s playable, unlike the developer’s last game, Blacksad: Under the Skin. If you’re not really into gaming, but like a compelling story, then maybe give Alfred Hitchcock – Vertigo a chance. I’d highly recommend waiting for it to go on sale though, as the price tag is a bit steep for a messy one-time playthrough experience.

Alfred Hitchcock Vertigo has some interesting themes, but ultimately the voice acting and tedious adventure game sections will lead to many putting the controller down. The hypnotherapy sessions are interesting, but unless you really get a kick out of early 2000s style voice acting it’s a difficult one to recommend.

Alfred Hitchcock - Vertigo è un titolo sicuramente ambizioso, che però cade vittima delle sue stesse intenzioni. Tradurre in videogioco il linguaggio cinematografico di un regista seminale come Hitchcock è un intento complicato, e il modo con cui Pendulo Studio l'ha rincorso sottolinea un'evidente confusione sulla natura stessa dell'adattamento. Vertigo è tutta forma e poco contenuto, e si qualifica come un'avventura narrativa a la TellTale con veramente poco da dire, soprattutto a causa della piattezza del suo racconto. Un gran peccato, purtroppo.

Whilst its exciting plot twists are sure to have you dizzy with surprise, Vertigo ultimately fails to stand up against the weight of expectation brought about by its own name.

Nowhere near the classic the true Alfred Hitchcock – Vertigo was, this pretender does an unsatisfactory and un-compelling job of providing a worthwhile experience. The story takes its time to truly materialize convincingly, and the payoff isn’t worth the effort. From an appearance standpoint, the game looks atrocious and will not have the looks your mother could love either. The act of controlling and playing Vertigo is passable, but unfortunately it hasn’t been properly optimized for console – which goes for both how the game looks, and the absence of a proper cursor when pointing and clicking the environment. Despite flashes of intrigue in the story and some enjoyment with the past memories Ed relives, Vertigo is a shoddy game that fails to live up to lofty standards – and as it shows you quite vividly, this one has fallen off a bridge and splattered on the ground below.

This version of Vertigo portrays women in a way that is seriously difficult to stomach in a post-#MeToo era. Here, women prey on an unsuspecting man using, for instance, sex and hypnosis to lure him in and do him harm. Male trauma is of course absolutely real, but this game doesn’t have the tools to examine it with the required care, and ends up essentially saying #MenToo – and doing a significant disservice to the body of cinematic work that inspires it.

Alfred Hitchcock - Vertigo es una buena reimaginación del clásico del celuloide de 1958. Repleto de giros de guión y con una historia completamente nueva creada sobre las bases de la original. Se le puede echar en cara que en algunos momentos se extiende más de lo debido, descubriendo así sus puntos débiles en lo argumental. Jugablemente es escaso, bien podría haberse llevado la misma trama y diálogos al cine o televisión y el resultado hubiese sido el mismo. Artísticamente, se da un batacazo por culpa del modelado de los rostros de los personajes y unas animaciones faciales muy mejorables. Una aventura narrativa que puede agradar a los que busquen únicamente una buena trama y que tiene como gran valedor su excelente doblaje al castellano.

As is, the sections focusing on the villain are basically just a psychopath simulator. There’s definitely some dark stuff in there and the characters have a real spark of life in them, but it doesn’t quite stick the landing - and that’s kind of how I feel about Vertigo as whole, too.

Alfred Hitchcock’s Vértigo es un juego para los amantes de las historias con interesantes giros de guion. Es una pena que el título sufra de problemas de optimización, ya que da la impresión de que ha faltado algo de tiempo para poder pulirlo de manera correcta. Apto para cualquier usuario que busque otro juego de narrativa pura que añadir a su colección y le gusten las tramas al más puro estilo Hitchcock.

Esperaba con muchas ganas Alfred Hitchcock – Vertigo. Ya no solo como aficionada al misterio, sino también por ser el resultado del trabajo de uno de mis equipos desarrolladores favoritos. Y, sin embargo, me deja una sensación agridulce. Por una parte, está su argumento, que es más que interesante y funciona muy bien como gancho para tenernos frente a la pantalla. Pero aparecen ciertos tropos que resultan un tanto rancios, unidos a los déficits en su apartado artístico, que a veces llega a la comedia involuntaria y llega a sacarnos de la partida. Se queda como una experiencia a medio gas, un quiero y no puedo de una aventura gráfica que partía de una premisa estupenda pero no llegó a dar en el punto exacto.
