When it comes to gameplay, there has never been a title quite like Denshattack. Fusing parkour, speed, and a complicated tricktionary make for an experience wholly its own. And that experience is pure adrenaline, packed with heart-pumping stunts, gorgeous and varied settings, and an unscratchable itch to dive back in for just one more try at that elusive gold medal.

I haven’t played a game that captivated me as much right from the get-go as Denshattack has. The initial premise is so ridiculously outlandish that it’s hard to ignore. But I never even considered it could have such an interesting narrative behind it, one that’s surprisingly tied to real-life issues Japan is facing. My only issue is that there isn’t more Denshattack to enjoy. Undercoders cooked up a proper gem—a game that reminds you not everything has been said and done in gaming, and an absolute must-play that needs to be in your collection right now. It is my Game of the Year thus far, and it could potentially be yours as well.

What initially sparked my curiosity with its absurdity quickly turned out to be one of the most entertaining games I've played this year: Denshattack! is the perfect combination of games like Jet Set Radio, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Skate while simultaneously being so stylish, colorful and fast-paced that it's often difficult to grasp everything that's happening at once. The game never lets you catch your breath thanks to it introducing new mechanics, mission structures and gameplay elements regularely. Especially if you're aiming for gold medals in the various levels and chasing high scores there's endless hours of fun waiting for you. Plus the awesome soundtrack is perfectly tailored to the game and its visual style and just slaps.

Denshattack! turns the wild concept of riding trains and performing gravity-defying aerial maneuvers into a masterful experience. The game brims with creativity at every turn, constantly introducing new elements to ensure the experience never grows stale. As a bonus, its simple, straightforward story captivates players with its humor, over-the-top events, and an incredibly charismatic cast. Everything is balanced so masterfully that the gameplay flows seamlessly, and before you know it, you’re completely swept up in the game’s magic.

Undercoders surprises us with a concept that takes the familiarity of skateboarding and presents it in an original package to create an extremely creative, intense, and unique experience. Denshattack! is “the surprise” of 2026 so far. It’s a title from which I expected something much smaller and more concise—not in terms of length, but in terms of ambition. However, what we have here is an experience that doesn’t shy away from taking risks or daring to do something different, offering tools that foster expression and creativity.

I may have mentioned several other games in this review; however, Denshattack! is really unlike anything else. There is virtually nothing negative I have to say about this game. Sure, it can get incredibly challenging, which leads to some frustration. But that was down to my own skill issues, rather than any unfairness from the game’s design.
This is an incredibly fun, well-crafted title that I believe could be an indie smash hit. If you have any interest in original game ideas, you absolutely need to check out Denshattack! Who knew extreme sports: trains edition could be so much fun?
Therefore, Denshattack! receives the ThumbCulture Platinum Award!

Denshattack! demands patience during its opening stretch, and some players may bounce off before its controls start to feel natural. Denshattack! is one of those games that reminds me why I love video games. It doesn't want to be a cinematic epic, it doesn't want to make deep social commentary, it doesn't want to reinvent the wheel. Denshattack! remains a tremendously exciting and memorable adventure. Its level design, gameplay ideas, music, and presentation all feel far beyond what one might expect from an indie game. Traces of Jet Set Radio's parkour spirit, the trick-scoring systems of skateboarding games, and the mechanics of numerous classic video games can all be found within it. Most importantly, it turns the seemingly absurd concept of "the subway itself doing parkour" into an excellent game that is far more than just a joke.

Denshattack! is a triumph of a game, and manages to take inspiration and turn it into something far greater. A ridiculous premise is given the weight it deserves, ending with a game I can't help but love. While it might not scratch the itch of a 'true' arcade skater game, what is here is fantastic by its own merits. Denshattack! is a throwback to a time when games were allowed to be weird. A train pulling off skateboard tricks at high speeds while fending off a Voltron-style mech sounds strange even during the heights of the PSone/Dreamcast/early PS2 eras. The execution is excellent all around, and Denshattack! nails all of the familiar elements of other games while still feeling very original instead of being a homage to a particular cult title. This is a fantastic game, and the only reason to pass is if you tend to shy away from the extreme sports genre.

Denshattack! is a stylish adrenaline rush that nails the blend of trick-based action and cyberpunk aesthetics in ways most games can’t touch. That’s the TBB Curator blurb, and for once it might be underselling it. This is one of the most confidently weird, mechanically sharp, visually loud games of 2026, and the fact that it’s a trick game about trains is the least interesting thing about it once you’re actually playing.
Undercoders took a premise that reads as a joke and built something with real technical depth underneath it. The controls are excellent. The skill ceiling is enormous. The presentation is gorgeous. The bosses are completely unhinged in the best way. The story and characters are better than they had any obligation to be. It runs at 200fps on modest hardware and 60 locked on a Steam Deck. It’s twenty dollars.
The boss jank is real and the story runtime is on the shorter side — but this is a score-attack arcade game, and judging it on story length is like judging Tony Hawk on its narrative. The content is in the mastery, and there’s a mountain of it.
If the trailer looks exciting to you, buy it. That’s the whole recommendation. Almost nobody who’s played this game has come away anything less than delighted, and the ones who list complaints are listing them from the other side of forty hours of medal-chasing.

Denshattack is a wild, adrenaline-fueled ride that manages to make driving a train feel like the most intense thing you’ve done all year. While it stumbles slightly by lacking leaderboards and having some awkward UI choices during high-speed segments, the core loop is so satisfyingly deep that it’s easy to look past the rough edges. If you’re a fan of arcade classics and want something that leans fully into vibrant, over-the-top style, this is a total blast. Denshattack amazed me greatly, especially the gameplay, which was my biggest doubts. It's a fast-paced and frenetic title that appeals to fans of the Urban Style genre, both graphically and musically. The soundtrack is simply perfect for the genre, and the production is by some big names.

Denshattack! stands out in a genre dominated by conventional ideas and vast open spaces. Unique without being unreachable. Nostalgic without derivative. Hard but not punitive. The game is full of contagious excitement, whether you're pursuing top scores, level mastery, secret passageways, or soaring through strange realms at breakneck speed.

Denshattack! is pure arcade adrenaline, messy, loud, and impossible to put down.
It’s one of the most fast, stylish, and wildly inventive racers I’ve played in recent years. Even with a few frustrating control quirks, its energy, charm, and smart accessibility options make it easy to recommend. When everything comes together, it delivers some of the most exciting moments I’ve had in an arcade racer in recent years. With a little refinement, it could be something truly special.

Denshattack! is more than just the sum of its inspirations as it constantly pushes the arcade platformer genre forward with inventive level design and delightfully over-the-top boss encounters. In many ways, it's a love letter to Japanese pop culture, packing everything from mechas and kaiju to Akira slides into one unforgettable Shonen-adventure, even if its story leaves much to be desired. Once you overcome its steep learning curve, it becomes a nonstop thrill ride that never lets up, constantly building momentum and taking you to places you never thought possible.

Denshattack! transforms an unlikely concept, performing skateboard tricks with high-speed trains, into one of the year's most inventive indie experiences. Its satisfying trick system, varied boss encounters, stylish presentation, vibrant visuals, and excellent soundtrack create a gameplay loop that remains consistently engaging, while more than 50 stages and numerous optional objectives provide strong replay value. The story, however, relies on familiar battle shonen tropes and forgettable characters, serving mostly as a backdrop for the action. Despite its narrative shortcomings, Denshattack! delivers an original and addictive gameplay experience that stands out through creativity and execution.

Denshattack! may not reinvent the genre, but it stands out thanks to its unusual charm and surprisingly solid gameplay identity. Its ability to reinterpret such a specific and eccentric theme through fresh, layered mechanics makes it a game worth discovering, especially for those who appreciate bold ideas. Some trial‑and‑error moments and the lack of Italian don’t undermine its overall impact: it’s a lively, surprising experience that enthusiastically celebrates Japan’s quirky love for trains. A short yet intense ride, powered by the same wild energy as its acrobatic convoy, and one of the most memorable releases of 2026.

Denshattack! is one of the most original games we’ve had the chance to try lately. Who would ever think to blend the world of Japanese trains with skateboarding and the vibrant colors of Jet Set Radio? This crazy and incredibly successful idea comes from the Catalan studio Undercoders, which has delivered a game that captivates us with its challenges and its eccentricity. But be warned! Mastering Denshattack isn’t for novice train drivers, and you’ll need a lot of dedication to impress your friends with the craziest tricks. Now it’s up to you: ready to go?

It's oozing with style and succeeds in driving home the lunacy of a kickflipping train home with a well thought-out arsenal of tricks and enough variety to make this on-rails sonata a pleasing tune of a video game. In some ways, this might be my favorite 3D Sonic game. In other ways, it's a sequel to Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam. The comparisons can carry on, but Denshattack endures beyond it because it doesn't neatly fit a specific comparison or stereotype. Denshattack is Denshattack.

Racing across Japan, Emi and the other Denshattackers populate an increasingly crowded loading screen, filled with absurd characters sharing the train's space. It's so easy to forget that this video game isn't Japanese , because it shares two of the characteristics recurring in Japanese video games and trains: a love for what you're doing and a concern for those who board, whether passengers or gamers.

Denshattack! is an effective homage to Sega's Dreamcast era without feeling too derivative. Using a train, of all things, to pull off insane tricks to increase your score sounds utterly ridiculous on paper, but it all works very well. It's the kind of gameplay that invites you to play it again and again to perfect your runs and earn those lofty gold medals. It's just a shame that the core hook is surrounded by needless fluff that bloats the overall experience. Yes, you can skip most of it, but Denshattack! would have shone even brighter had the devs leaned further into its arcade-style inspirations. Still, it's well worth a punt for its gameplay alone, and there's a strong foundation here to spawn an even better sequel in the future.

Denshattack is a wacky, over the top experience that demands your full attention and offers plenty of replay value. I will say, though, that for as absurd and fast paced as it is (and believe me, I love my games when they’re completely ridiculous), it throws a few too many mechanics and reflex checks at you all at once, all while expecting you to squeeze in trick combos during a run. It can be a bit overwhelming and frustrating at times, but the game is just so damn charming that it’s somewhat easy to overlook most of its flaws.
