There are plenty of other serious racers available on the App Store, but Split/Second will feed your inner tweenager's destructive lust with its explosive action like no other racer.

Wholly playable online multiplayer over Wi-Fi. Excellent track design with lots of stuff that goes boom. An all-new location exclusive to the iPhone version. And it's pretty smooth, too, considering how fast it is. (I played it on a 3GS, by the way.) But it just never gels.

While Split/Second for iPhone can be a fun arcade racer, App Store racing staples like Real Racing [$4.99 / Free] and Need for Speed Shift [$6.99] are just flat out better technical racers. As such, Split/Second isn't a must have but may appeal to those looking for a different and far more arcade-y racing experience.

A poorly tuned, unpolished wreck of a racer, Split/Second ruins a great idea with substandard execution

With its clever level design, high speed gameplay, and awesome explosion gimmick, Split/Second shows a ton of potential. But unless it’s updated to become less buggy and punishing, we recommend you sit this race out.

Forget Split/Second for the iPhone. It's not worth the time or effort, especially at $6.99. Save up for the big boy version instead. You'll feel better.
