Ginger: Beyond the Crystal is priced at $20 USD and I 100% believe that it is worth that price. The game is super enjoyable and challenging but in a good way. You should not have the feeling of breaking your controller or smashing your television, but the game will not be a cakewalk. This is a platformer that we needed and it excelled at every aspect. So, grab your robes, we have some crystals to collect my friends.

Despite those sparse moments of slipping through the literal cracks, Ginger: Beyond the Crystal accomplishes its goals to the point of being a rare jewel by combining classic platforming with an adorable protagonist, beautifully designed world, and a surprisingly elaborate plot.

Complaints aside, Ginger: Beyond the Crystal does a great job of bringing back the classic 3D platformer. It's simple, enjoyable, and long enough to keep you playing for hours while also featuring enough variety that it always feels fresh.

Issues mentioned, I have been having a great time with Ginger Beyond the Crystal, warts and all. It’s got a lot of little issues or oddities, but it hard charm and heart, and at the center of it all is a decent platforming title.

I feel like this could've been a great game. It could've truly been something special and worth investing time into. However, it stumbles in far too many places. There're glaring design flaws (you can't access options from the pause screen, by the way) that truly made me wonder if the game was ready for release. I can't recommend the game at full price, but its variety makes it worth experiencing.

All in all, Ginger: Beyond The Crystal is a competent 3D platformer, bringing with it all the nostalgia you’d want for games of the time, whilst also bringing some of the gameplay quirks that are likely to frustrate. As a relatively cheap stop-gap between now and Yooka-Laylee, you could definitely do a lot worse.

Ginger: Beyond the Crystal fills a pretty significant void on the Xbox One, there just aren’t that many platformers on the console that fans of the Nintendo 64 used to enjoy. The game is not very impressive graphically and it has some unfortunate flaws, such as the odd freezing glitch and lengthy load times. But despite the flaws, the game is still enjoyable to play, with a great soundtrack and inspired moments from some of gaming’s biggest games.

You'll only want to invest in Ginger if you are really missing the 3D platform game genre. It isn't a bad game at all, but it does so many things to such an average degree that it is hard to get excited about. There is also the lingering feeling that with just a little more effort and some focus, it could have been so much better. A missed opportunity, and a game for diehard fans of the genre only.

Ginger: Beyond the Crystal is a good game, but it isn’t going to change the world. I’m really glad we got this though, as there aren’t enough games that are just clean fun that the whole family can enjoy. Funny enough is the fact that Ginger: Beyond the Crystal is on every system except the now dead Wii U. Chances are if this would have hit the N64 or Gamecube it would have gone down as a classic. Hell, it feels really Nintendo when you play it. Maybe they could port thisone to the 3DS, but now I’m just thinking out loud.
